My Great Aunt left a note about the family too her nephews and nieces stating .
Great, Great Grandma was the daughter of Lord Howe.
She married the family solicitor. He only lived another 6 months !
Too proud to go home she later married a Mr Pope.
There were 3 sons. Her husband died before their 4th child, Susanna, was born.
Bearing in mind this was told long before computers were invented or access to records were available, the story has merit and research seems to back it up.
Susannah Pope was born in 1828 in Abingdon Berkshire and was the youngest of 4 she had 3 brothers William (1826) Thomas (1824) and John (1823) all 3 had the name Howe-Pope. Their Father was Thomas Pope born about 1797 and died 13/4/1828, he married a Widow named Mary.
this is where we have got stuck. Mary would have been born around 1871 and from the looks of it married a Mr Green ? was he the family Solicitor ?? All searches for a Lord Howe show no matches.
any ideas
