Australia / John Thomas Martin
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 02:11 BST (UK)  »
Good Morning All,

Whilst waiting for confirmation of details on the paternal side of the family I have started on the maternal. I am starting with John Thomas Martin. Born Oct 1875 Hill End. Parents are John Thomas Martin and Emma Jane Hancock. I have found a "tree" with a death of 10 July 1925 but cannot confirm this. I have also not found a wife. He had 11 (wow) brothers and sisters that I will go through one at a time, one being Great Great Grandmother Lucy Marion Martin. She is the reason for this side of the family hunt.

Can anyone shed some light on John Thomas Martin born 1875?

UPDATE: What I am now clear on:
John Thomas MARTIN born 1875-1876 Hill End, New South Wales.
Parents: John Thomas MARTIN & Emma Jane HANCOCK.
In 1913 he was alive and aged 37 from his father's death certificate.
In 1943 he was deceased as his mother's obituary names only one surviving son.

Australia / Richard James Ludlow
« on: Friday 16 August 19 05:03 BST (UK)  »
Good Afternoon All,

I am trying to verify the parents of Richard James Ludlow born 1868 Sydney New South Wales.
He married Lucy Marion Martin in 1904. They had one child. Lucy died from complications during child birth.

There are two births in 1868 for a Richard J Ludlow one registered Sydney with parents of Richard and Elizabeth. The other one registered Glebe (I know that is also Sydney) with parents of Richard W and Elizabeth. Common names, I know, but I want to know which one is correct so I can go back further.

From his death in 1938 I know that he was born 71 years prior, which makes birth year about 1867. He was born in Sydney and moved as a child with his parents to Tenterfield. He was into Gold and Tin mining. In about 1923 he moved with his 2nd wife Margaret and son to Tweed.

That is the extent of my knowledge. Any help finding who his parents were and if he had any brother and sisters would be most helpful.

P.S. I do have a family of 8 children being: Janet R, Helen M, Richard J, Thomas H, William J, Henry A, Elizabeth P & James A but cannot 100% confirm that it is all the same family.

United States of America / Birth dates for Airmen killed in Australia
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 05:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all.  ;D

I am currently doing some research on five American Army Air Corps men that died in Australia. They were all killed in an aircraft accident in Monto, Queensland on 21 November 1943. The plane was discovered in 1948 and they were all buried in Bundaberg, Queensland on 5 July 1948.

1. A.E. Peglow - Albert Edward Peglow. Born 20 December 1916 in Michigan

2. E.L. Ahmann - Everett Louis Ahmann. Born 27 November 1916 in Missouri

3. J.F. Giugno

4. M.L Reitman

5. V.N. Gibson

I was after some help with the full names, birth dates and places of Giugno, Reitman and Gibson. I do not require any added information at this point in time.

What I have found so far is;

J.F Giugno - I think his first name is John and he was perhaps born in New York. His serial # was 12030794. He was 22 when he died
M.L. Reitmann - I think his first name is Michael and he was perhaps born in New York. He was 24 when he died.
V.N. Gibson - This one is interesting as records I have found in Australia have his name as N.V. Gibson but his headstone gives V.N. Gibson. He was 22 when he died.

Any help with full names and births would be very much appreciated. I wasn't sure about putting this request on the Forces forum as I am actually only after names and births.  ::)

Kind regards,

« on: Monday 23 December 13 08:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all,

I am searching for deaths and burial locations for:

1. Mara Cecilia Sloane - married surname Pascoe. Born 22 June 1894, Bundaberg. Last known location Coorparoo, Queensland. Her husband Charles Francis Pascoe died in Bundaberg and is buried there. After his death it looks like she went to the Brisbane area.

2. Ethel May Sloane - married surname Ward. Born 12 May 1891, Bundaberg. Found her Queensland death in 1970. Need to know where she is buried. Her husband Josiah Ward died in Canada and is buried there. Last know location Bulimba, Queensland.

I have all information up until 1980 on the above girls and their parents are Thomas Wilson Sloane and Sarah Pursell Glover.

Would really like to know where they are buried and any help would be much appreciated.  ;D

New Zealand Completed Requests / Auckland mental health records
« on: Thursday 12 December 13 05:23 GMT (UK)  »
Greeting to all.

I have lost track of William Britain Griffiths from March 1915.  :-\

He seems to of had a few issues (drinking and theft) and a newspaper report in March 1915 sees him charged with being a rogue and vagabond remanded for medical examination as to his mental health.

Can anybody see if he was admitted somewhere? (Not sure if I have worded that correctly)  :)

I found a burial in 1916 in Waikumete Cemetery for a;
William B Griffiths, adult male, died 23 January 1916, buried 24 January 1916.
Funeral Directors says: Converted record. (I have no idea what this means)
A general search of the death records for 1916 throws up a William Button Griffiths, which could be interpreted as Britain. I have no idea if either of these refer to the William I am looking for.

Any help finding him after March 1915 would be much appreciated.

He was born on board the SS Great Britain in 1968.
His parents are George Griffiths and Jane Hazell.
He came to New Zealand in 1895 and settled in Onehunga.
I have all pre 1915 records for him.

Kind regards

Lanarkshire / Glidden Girls
« on: Friday 22 November 13 04:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all  ;D

I am looking for any information, however small, on my two Glidden girls.

This is what I know;
Their parents are Francis Glidden and Betsy Baxter married 21 March 1884, 19 Orchard Row, Cambusnethan. Francis died 6 September 1888 and Betsy died 4 September 1897.

Francis and Betsy had three children:
William Glidden born 23 December 1884 - 100% confirmed
Elizabeth Stewart Glidden born 4 September 1886 - 100% confirmed
Grace Harris Glidden born 19 May 1888 - 100% confirmed

I have all birth, death, burial and marriage information relating to Francis and Betsy and am currently trying to tie up loose ends on William on the USA board. I have a couple of queries relating to Betsy (Birth & Marriage say Betsy, death says Elizabeth). I have not been able to find Betsy on the 1891 Census. Her three children are on the 1891 census with their grandmother, where is she (her address at death was Scott Street, Motherwell) She died of eclampsia, which I believe is childbirth related, although I can find no other children.

Back to the girls. My last evidence of Elizabeth & Grace is the 1891 census aged 4 & 3. Their grandmother went to the USA in 1897 with William. What has happened to the girls? In 1897 they would only have been 10 & 9.

Any insights or leads would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hello to all,  :D

Just after any opinions and thoughts on an incorrect date of birth.

I have a Scottish 1838 OPR birth which gives a birth date of 31st February.

What should I record as the actual date of birth.
