Essex / A missing marriage??
« on: Monday 30 August 10 15:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I've been trying to find a marriage now for a long time between William James Woodman & Sarah Ann Gear. They were my 2x great grandparents & whilst I've been able to trace back from Sarah, William remains a dead end.

They had their fist child Sarah Matilda 18th Dec 1880, my great grandfather Walter Albert 4th Jun 1882 & then I believe 2 more sons Samuel & Jack.

On the 1881 census it states that William James Woodman was born c 1853 Southampton, Hampshire. I think it is highly likely that he is the William (James) Woodman registered at Boldre, Hampshire on the 1861 & 1871 census returns. Firstly he is no longer listed in Boldre in 1881 & second because his parents were Samuel & Sarah (I also seem to remember their being a brother called Walter - though I don't have access to Ancestry at the mo).

Sarah was from Plaistow,West Ham, Essex & they are living there on the 1881 census.

Obviously a record of there marriage (hopefully including father's names) would help no end though I am beginnning to think that maybe they never actually got officially married.

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Creating a Website
« on: Monday 30 August 10 15:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

My Mum would like to help me with my reasearch & I'm thinking about possibly creating a website so that she can also access all the information I've already accumulated & add anything she might discover.

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to do so & how it is done. If I do create one I'd like it to be password protected.

I currently have all my records on FTM.

Many thanks for any help (though I'll warn you now that I do have a bit of a fear of computers :-/)

I was wondering if you could see if there was any info on the following please.

James Clark - born c1754 - died Rye or Winchelsea - buried Winchelsea 16th Nov 1827.
Mary Clark - born c1759 - died Rye or Winchelsea - buried Winchelsea 27th Jul 1828.

Robert Clark - died Rye or Winchelsea - unsure when he died but I believe he was alive in 1780. He was James' father if that helps.
Mary Clark - died Rye or Winchelsea - Roberts wife - sorry no more information.

Many thanks

Hi all,

Before I post any images I just wanted to check about any copyright laws. I noticed from a previous thread that complete images of wills are not allowed on this forum (though it seems you can split them into sections) but wasn't sure about the deeds I have.

They were not aquired from the national archives. Photos of them were kindly sent to me by the current owner of the house who is in possession of the actual deeds.

I have contacted him & he has no problems with me putting the images on rootschat.

Please could someone let me know if it is ok to attach the images. I don't want to get into any trouble!

Many thanks

Sussex Lookup Requests / Is anyone going to the East Sussex Records Office? Please
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone was going to the East Sussex Records Office who could do a couple of lookups for me.

I'm looking for a burial for Robert Clark(e) (bc 1710-20) a miller/baker. He would have been buried in either Winchelsea or Rye & I think that he died late(ish) 1700s or early 1800s. I do know however that he is not the Robert Clark miller/baker that left a will 8th March 1809. I have bought that will from the National Archive site & know it is not him.

Also I wondered if anyone could confirm the baptism I found on family search for James Clark - baptised 27th Feb 1754 - recorded in Rye, Sussex - parents Robert Clark & Mary. I would also be interested to know if Robert's profession is given.

I have visited the ESRO once but at that time had not got this far back with my tree. I live in the North East so it's not that easy to nip down there.

Many thanks to anyone that can help.
Best wishes
Liz

Hi,

Please could you see if you have any details for

James Clark(e) - most likely Rye, though could be Winchelsea

Robert Clark(e) - could be either Rye or Winchelsea.

James was Robert's son & both were millers & bakers.

Many thanks

Sussex Lookup Requests / Rye & Winchelsea burial records
« on: Thursday 23 October 08 13:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had access to the burial records for Rye & Winchelsea.

I'm looking for the burial of Robert Clark(e). He could have died any time from 1754 to 1827 though my guess would be late (ish) 1700s.

Many thanks

Sussex / Robert Clark(e) of Winchelsea or Rye
« on: Thursday 16 October 08 13:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone with access to the Sussex Marriage Index could look to see if there are any marriages for a Robert Clark(e) to Mary in either Winchelsea or Rye around 1730-1760.

I've a likely one for Robert Clark & Mary Hoad in Winchelsea 25th Apr 1742. I was wondering if the SMI had any other information such as Robert's occupation or witnesses names. I would expect Robert to be a miller/baker.

I was also wondering if anyone had access to the baptism records for Rye. I have a probable baptism for Robert & Mary's son James 27th Feb 1754 in Rye. I got this from IGI & was again wondering if anyone had details of Robert's occupation.

Many thanks

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone could help improve this 1860/70's photo. The man on the right hand side wearing a cap and leaning against the shop doorframe is my 2xGGF. Typically he is in the worse bit of the photo!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Liz
