Longford / Moore’s of Co. Longford
« on: Friday 22 October 21 10:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I did a dna test a few months back and the results helped me to find my birth father and his family.
All now passed away. He was Thomas James Moore from Tully, Longford.
Thomas was born in 1918 died 1995 as far as I know he never married his siblings were
Lillian Jane 1919-2020 she emigrated to America after she married.
Richard 1921-1997, Gertrude 1928-1984, Dorothy 1931-2000.
My question is would anyone have any knowledge of the family or know them.
Especially Dorothy as she was the last to pass away.
All of the above with the exception of Lillian are buried in St.Patrick Church of Ireland graveyard, Granard Co. Longford along with their parents Harriett and Richard ‘Tully’ Moore

I did find possibly 2 more siblings mother’s maiden Bennett
They are Joan Moore born 1929 and Mildred Moore born 1934
I am very curious to know if these 2 were siblings of my birth father Thomas.
I don’t have any other information on Joan or Mildred.
Many thanks.

Cavan / James Shaw and extended family.
« on: Sunday 23 May 21 14:16 BST (UK)  »
James Shaw died in Drumcarey, Co. Cavan in 1878 he married some called Eliza.
I know they had at least 1 daughter also named Eliza who was born about 1843.

I believe there was a daughter named Isabella 1836 a son named John 1837.
James may also have had a brother named Samuel but I can’t be sure.
It’s Isabella, John and Samuel I need assistance with please. Did they marry and have any children.
We’re there more siblings for James?
Many thanks for any help given

Longford / Shaw family Co. Cavan Co. Longford
« on: Friday 21 May 21 15:40 BST (UK)  »
My great grandmother was Eliza/Elizabeth Shaw born about 1843 in Country Cavan her father was James Shaw 1808-1878.
I am trying to find Eliza’s mother was and did Elia have any siblings
Eliza married James Heuston in Co. Cavan and died in 1912 in Drumderg, Ballinalee, Co. Longford
Eliza and James had at least 4 children
Robert John 1867
Eliza 1869 died within a year, then Eliza Jane 1870 or are the 2 Eliza’s the same baby I don’t know,
Jane 1873
James 1874
All children seem to be born in Co. Antrim.
I am unsure on how or why the family came to be living in Co. Antrim.
So I’m interested in trying to fill some gaps on my ancestors.
Thank you for any help given.

Ireland / William Hamilton... Royal Irish Constabulary
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandfather William Hamilton was in the RIC from 1858 until his retirement in 1898
His service no. 23072.
I’m told his first post was in Co. Leitrim July 1858 (age abt 19) I don’t know where abouts.
Dec 1860 he moved to Dublin (reserve) based in Phoenix Park, until 1877
My question is would he have been a reserve for that length of time.... surely not!!!
While stationed in Dublin her married Margaret Devine in 1871. They had many children during their life.

So Nov 1877 on to Belfast until Aug 1878 when he move again to Co. Louth along with his wife and children.
By Oct 1882 he had moved again this time Crossmolina Co. Mayo where he was involved some how in the Crossmolina Conspiracy Case..... Any information on this would be greatly received.

Oct 1885 William and family were in Athenry Co Galway I understand [unfavourable record for gross dereliction of duty per file 376/902 7.5.87] .. what would this mean please!!
William and family were then based in Ballyjamesduff Co Cavan by 1890.

I know William rose through the ranks over those years to District Inspector, and his retirement pension was around £225 per ann which I’d say was a very tidy sum.

Most of the above was information was given to me by a very kind lady from another media site and not my own research.

I’m really looking to fill in those little gaps...
Would he have been a reserve for 17 yrs ??
Crossmolina Conspiracy Case ( I don’t think he was involved in a big way though)
Gross dereliction of duty what would that refer to.
Many thanks

Longford / Abbott’s of Longford
« on: Friday 26 June 20 15:48 BST (UK)  »
Mary Jane Heuston 1850-1930 my great grand aunt married John Abbott 1845-1936.
They had 12 children I have very little knowledge of many of the children.
Eliza born 1872-? she emigrated to America in 1901..  George 1874-1956 he went to Dublin
Fanny 1876-?... John James 1878-1943 ... William 1883-1883... Catherine 1884-?
Robert Henry 1885-1934 he died in America.... James 1888-?.... William 1889 -? He went to Dublin and worked for Guinness Brewery.
Thomas 1891-1951 he married Georgina Foster ... Arthur 1893-1945 he went to Dublin and also worked for Guinness Brewery married Catherine Lawrence.... Edward 1895-?

I could only find 2 marriages and still unsure of the deaths of several.
All were born around Drumdreg Co. Longford.
I found some of the family on both 1901 and 1911 Census. I obtained most of the information I have from Irish Genealogy.
The family were Church of Ireland.
Any assistance on where to look would be of great help.
Thank you.
