United States of America / George Bussey, Utica NY
« on: Saturday 15 September 12 03:09 BST (UK)  »
I am currently researching George Bussey who married Mary Wheeler Sippell (1815-1904) before 1840 in or near Utica, NY.

Mary W. Bussey appears to have been widowed or estranged from George Bussey by 1850. She had two children Frances L. Bussey born about 1840 and William George Bussey born about 1846.

Frances L. Bussey married Samuel A. Field and lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

William George Bussey (1846-1904) was born in 1846 in Utica, NY. He went to school at Hamilton College and later Yale Law (1868). He married Grace Fletcher Trufant in 1875 in Lynn, Massachusetts.

The only bit of information I have for George Bussey is that he was purportedly a civil engineer (per William G. Bussey's obituary).

United States of America / William F. Scott, Sheriff Prince Edward Co, VA
« on: Friday 03 August 12 17:49 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have a William F. Scott(e) who was living in Prince Edward County, Virginia? William F. Scott was born in Virginia by 1814. His was recorded as a farmer (also sheriff). In 1850, his household included a Mary Meadows, age 74 (b. abt 1776) and his overseer, Thomas Biggers age 33 (b abt 1817).

I believe William Scott appears in the 1840 census and is listed in the 1860 census. I've lost track of him after 1860. A marriage record of one of his natural children, suggests that he was alive as late as 1867.

Europe / Place Name - Germany - SEIBOLD family
« on: Sunday 01 July 12 14:27 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have any idea where "marktl gravitz" or "markt grauvitz" would have been? This place name appeared on an mid-1890s passport application in New York. I've run several variations through Google Maps and have yet to get any hits. The surname was Seibold (various spellings).

« on: Wednesday 23 May 12 04:29 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have any information on John Nimmo listed in the 1891, 1901 census records in the household of Thomas Melvin and his wife Martha? (Martha born in Ireland/Wales?). John Nimmo was listed as the stepson of Thomas Melvin. His half siblings were William James, George and Jessie Melvin. He was born in England by about 1882. John Nimmo married and lived in Dumbarton. He may have died in Dumbarton by about 1929.

Canada / Robert Curry, St. James, NB
« on: Tuesday 17 April 12 17:48 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking information on Robert Curry who was born in Ireland (Northern?) between 1791 and 1797. He emigrated to New Brunswick in 1816. The tax payers rolls of St. Patrick Parish listed him as head of the household by 1846. He resided in St. Patrick with his wife Abigail in 1851. She was born between 1809 and 1812 in Ireland. His occupation was listed as farmer/blacksmith. Robert Curry was granted land in St. Patrick Parish in 1854.

The 1861 census shows that this couple lived in Dumbarton Parish. His occupation was listed as blacksmith. They were Presbyterians. Because of the age differences, I believe that Abigail may have been Robert's second wife.

To date, I have yet to find mention of this couple in any online or library sourced genealogy. I do, however, believe that they had at least two children; Martha Ann Curry born between 1826 and Mary E. Curry born in 1830.

In August of 1882, Martha Ann Curry and her husband Isaac PORTER and Mary Curry and her husband James SLOANE LOWDEN transferred lands which had been granted to them by Robert Curry.

Robert Curry may have descendants through the line of Eben PORTER and Hannah CLARKE of Charlotte County NB. I would like to correspond with anyone who may have any insights into this immigrant family.

Antrim / Lowden/Sloane Antrim Ireland to New Brunswick
« on: Tuesday 17 April 12 15:54 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information for James Lowden and Margaret Sloane in County Antrim prior to their immigration to Canada in 1830. What little I know about this couple has been gleaned from the 1851 Census of Charlotte County, New Brunswick, obituaries and the Charlotte County Deed Registries.

James Lowden and Margaret Sloane had known four children (per census, news paper accounts) born in Antrim between 1818 and about 1825. These children were: James Sloane Lowden (1818-1895), William John Lowden born 1820, Mathew Lowden born 1823 and Elizabeth Lowden born by 1824.

This family appears to have had close ties with the Bell and Kerr families. James Lowden may have had a sister named Catherine who married a Bell (Robert?) prior to their immigration to New Brunswick.

James Lowden, the immigrant, died before 1851. His son, James Sloane Lowden was a cabinet maker. The only other incidental information on James Sloane Lowden is that he was a Protestant and a Master Mason.

Canada / Ralph Taylor, Charlotte County NB
« on: Thursday 26 January 12 01:59 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone have any family information on the family of Ralph Taylor who settled in Charlotte County NB in 1784. He was a British naval officer (supposedly) and served under Mowat. He married and had children but haven't found any documentary evidence. He died in 1793 at sea during the war with the French.

Dunbartonshire / McFarlane Family - Parish of Luss
« on: Thursday 04 February 10 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone currently be researching the McFarlane family in the Parish of Luss? I have an OPR baptismal certificate (dated 1753)that makes reference to "tenents of Rue" which I assume to be tenents of Rhu. Would anyone have any ideas about surviving tenancies or estates in the 1750s for Rhu?

Cheers,

Inez

Seeking information on the family of Elizabeth Urquhart who was born in Scotland in 1763. She may have been the daughter of Robert Urquhart and Anne (Crew?). She was in Nova Scotia by 1785.

Thank you,
