Armed Forces / William Wagstaff 51st Regiment part 3
« on: Thursday 02 May 19 06:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have again come across some more information on Private William Wagstaff.

I am still trying to find out whether his children, 2 girls Mary Ann circa 1837/8 and Sara 1839 were born in Ireland or England. These 2 children were on board when they landed in Tasmania.

Whether William and his wife were married in England or Ireland and if they went to New South Wales or Tasmania.  I have been unable to find any records

The 51st Regiment had to stop at Tasmania to pick up water and some of the regiment stayed, the rest of the regiment went onto New South Wales with convicts on the "Port Sea".

I next trace William and family on the "Runnymede" heading to Western Australia, where they eventually settled.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

The Common Room / outward bound convict from Bermuda
« on: Wednesday 09 January 19 00:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I have been researching a James Mitchell from Scotland, who ended up in Australia 1863 as a convict.
Before he was transported to Western Australia, he had been previously convicted of theft and breaking and entering, he was convicted and transported to Bermuda on the Castle Eden, in 1854-5 and was received on the Medway hulk.  I then found him again convicted after this in 1861 where he was ultimately transported to Western Australia in 1863.

What I am trying to find is a ships list that he may have been on when he returned to England/Scotland after doing his time in Bermuda as they had to find and pay their own way.
TIA
Kim

Australia / William Wagstaff

Hi All

I need some help in working out whether the man in the subject line actually went to NSW.
His ship the "Port Sea" left Portmouth in 1838 to Sydney, but because they were running low on water they headed for Tasmania.  The Convicts were later transported to Sydney on the Augusta Jessie. Some of Williams Regiment(51st) went to Sydney with other Regiments. The other remained in Tasmania.
William was with his wife Mary, and daughters Mary Ann(1836) and Sarah (1839).
William and family then disembarked on the Runnymede from Tasmania to Western Australia in 1840.
My problem is, Williams wife and 2 daughters were listed on the Poet Sea Surgeon Superintendents logs, Sarah wouldn't have been born or was born on board the Port Sea, but there is no mention in the logs that there was any births.  Would her birth have been registered when they arrived in Tasmania?

Australia / Seekay Searching
« on: Monday 31 August 15 11:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My name is Kim and I have been trying to find my Great Grandmothers daughter, Pearlie Isabella Seekay, who was born 17 July 1901 in Moama NSW.   Her mothers name was Emily Jane Seekay.  There is no father recorded and apart from the birth certificate, there is no other record of her.  My Great Grandmother came to Western Australia, childless around or after 1911.  She changed her name to Emily Jane Casey (officially or unofficially) her siblings also changed their names.  Emily had a son who died at birth in 1907 to a Mr Thomas Dodkins. The Seekay children  were part Chinese.
Thank you in advance

Australia / Adoption search 1901 Moama/Echuca NSW illegitimate child
« on: Saturday 14 January 12 12:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi guy

I am hoping someone out there might be able to help me find my great grandmothers first born child.  Her date of birth was 17th July 1901 in Moama, NSW.  Her birth was registered.  From this date there is no other record of her.  My great grand mother had another child in 1907 and he died at birth.  She then moved to Western Australia after 1909, where the census records with her name Emily Jane Seekay are last recorded.  She became Emily Jane Casey.  My great grandmothers daughters name was Pearlie Isabella Seekay, father illigitimate.

Would there have been an adoption list that I may be able to access?

All help will be greatly appreciated
