Lancashire / Who was Susan?
« on: Saturday 01 February 14 09:43 GMT (UK)  »
I am try to find  more details on a Susan Cooper Baxter.
She married Frank Ainsworth in St Paul's Church Scotforth Lancaster. Sep 1915.
He emigrated to New Zealand in 1926 leaving her in England.
I posted on the New Zealand board and got lots of useful information but I'm still not sure if this is the correct Frank.
There is a divorce registered in New Zealand in 1929.
Frank Ainsworth is possibly my Father's brother who cut himself off from the family.
More information on Susan would help my search.
I  have sent for a  marriage certificate but just wondered if by chance anyone had any other information.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Lost Uncle
« on: Wednesday 29 January 14 10:04 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out what happened to my Father's eldest brother Frank (Francis) Ainsworth.

Born in Nelson Lancashire in 1889
1891/1901/1911 Census living at home. Worked as weaver in cotton mill.
His younger brother William Henry was killed in WW1 but I have failed to find a military record for Frank.
According to my Father there was some huge family falling out and he emigrated possibly to New Zealand. He also at some point may have changed his name to Hainsworth.
Not a lot to go on after 1911 but just wondered if anyone could help with any pointers to tracing him.

Lancashire / 'Licence to move corpse'
« on: Monday 11 November 13 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
I came across this entry while researching a Daniel Eastwood and wasn't really clear as to what it meant.
He died on 27 Feb 1918 aged 62 and wasn't buried until 13 April 1918 which seems a long time.
He was buried at St James Briercliffe Lancashire with the following note in the Register
'This corpse was removed from Providence Chapel by licence'
I'm guessing this was the Wesleyan Methodist Providence Chapel.
Possibly there was no burial ground at Providence Chapel but this doesn't explain the delay.
Any ideas?

Lancashire / Brickwall help please! William Lord b 1806 Anne Blackburn 1929 m
« on: Monday 14 October 13 15:55 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of my Great Grandfather William Lord.
He was born about 1806.
According to the census returns
1851 Born in Colne
1861 Born in Marsden
1871 Born in Trawden

He was married on 6 Dec 1929 in St Barthomew's Church Colne to
Ann Blackburn born about 1807 in Trawden but I know nothing else about her either.

It is possible that Ann had been married before or she had an illegitimate son Thomas Blackburn born about 1826.

I seem to draw a blank wherever I search in finding any parent names for either of them and would be very grateful for any help!

Essex / Mass Baptisms
« on: Tuesday 13 August 13 12:41 BST (UK)  »
Looking for family baptisms and couldn't work out why the entries were in alphabetical order until I realised they were all for the same date.  There are 280 baptisms on 29 November 1866 at St Paul's Church Stratford.  I'm just curious to know why this was and so far have failed to find out anymore about it.  Can anyone throw any light on this?

The Common Room / Coincidence?
« on: Friday 28 June 13 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Could this be a coincidence?

Marriage
9th May 1920
Arthur Frederick Ahlquist and Helena Ross Taylor
Wilmslow Chester
Cheshire Parish Records

Marriage
22 May 1920 in St Luke Kentish Town Camden
Arthur Frederick Ahlquist and Helena Ross Taylor
I have a copy of the certificate for this marriage

Just curious as the groom was Swedish so it's not a very common name and as far as I know there were no family connections in Cheshire

Just curious and wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
Just looked at my Tribal pages site and the number of visitors is 132.
yesterday it was  about 260ish.
I don't mind but just wondered if this had happened to others.
Haven't asked Tribal pages as I've never yet had an answer when I've contacted them ::)

The Common Room / Definition
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
I'm probably just being thick and missing something very obvious here but in a 1788 Christening record the father's occupation is listed as
M.E.O.T. Gent
What am I missing ::)

The Lighter Side / Pruning Trees!!
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 09:18 GMT (UK)  »
Where do people draw the line on adding people to their tree?
I need to prune my 3000+ tree as I am much more interested in finding out more detail about peoples lives at the time than in collecting names.
Trouble is i keep discovering odd people I had missed for various reasons which is great but did they have to marry and have loads of children ::)
I found a GG Aunt's child yesterday who I thought must have died as an infant. Turned out just to have been away from home on census nights and was later married with nine children.
My problem is I'm too curious and keep wandering too far off track and then it seems a shame not to save the information I've found.
New Year resolution 'More self discipline required.'
