Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / George DUNK lookups please
« on: Sunday 17 February 13 10:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if somebody could do the following lookups please (I can do reciprocal work in the York area).

First a marriage from parish records: June quarter 1920 Hastings, George Dunk to Sarah Hilder (or Hyland) - I need to know their ages and father's names.

Next details from a grave: George Dunk Hastings Cemetery Burial 29th Dec 1942 Grave Number LTH 9 (date or year of birth would be good, age at death, also is he buried with/near relatives)

Many thanks
Paul

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help With A Parish Name Please
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm transcribing and translating a will and have come across a phrase that may well be the breakthrough I need. The will is from 1604 and I need to decipher a parish name, the parish is likely to be in Yorkshire.

The image below shows the phrase "the parish of XXXXXXX where I was born" and the next image shows a larger part of the will that mentions the parish a number of times.

Any ideas?

Dumfriesshire / THOMSON - Roucan, Torthorwald
« on: Friday 22 June 12 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I wondered if anyone could look up the MI for Joseph Thomson born about 1778, died 1843, buried 27 Feb 1843 in Torthorwald.

I believe his parents may have been John Thomson and Frances Wood as I have a baptism for a Joseph Thomson in Lochmaben in 1778. Any information regarding them would also be useful.

Many thanks

Europe / German marriage 1850's
« on: Thursday 16 February 12 08:29 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could answer a basic question please?

How do I go about finding a marriage record in Germany (possibly Hamburg) between 1851 and 1854?

The parties involved were both English, the chap was marrying his deceased wife's sister which was illegal in England at the time.

Thanks

Paul

Isle of Man / Horatio Lace b. 1857 Malew
« on: Friday 28 October 11 10:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm attempting to write up a history of my house and one of the first people to live there was Horatio Lace.

Horatio was born in Malew, Isle of Man in 1857 the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Lace. I have found 8 siblings of his; Joseph, Elizabeth, Frances, Edwin, Emily, Frederik, Gemma and another Emily.

Horatio is shown on the 1871 census, aged 14, in Patrick with his family. On the 1881 he is living in York.

I'm finding out about Horatio's time in York, where he worked for the railway, but I'd like to find out a bit about how and why he came to York from the Isle of Man.

If anyone has any information regarding the family and can fill in the missing bits would they please get in touch.

Thanks
Paul
