Somerset / SPENCER - Newton St Loe, 1794-
« on: Saturday 11 October 08 15:55 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any further information on my ancestor

Edward SPENCER born about 1768 a Yeoman from Newton St Loe. Edward died in Newton St Loe and was buried on 11th August 1823 aged 55. He left a will dated 21st May 1821 in which he left all his property to his wife Ann SPENCER nee DAFTER.

From the parish records for Newton St Loe I have traced a marriage on 23rd March 1794 to a Letitia FRANCIS. They had at least 1 child a Thomas born in 1795. Letitia was buried in Newton St Loe on 8th April 1796.

The marriage to Ann DAFTER is recorded in the Twerton parish records as 22nd May 1798 with the witnesses as John DAFTER and Isaac BRITTON. Ann was the daughter of John DAFTER and Hester born in 1774 in Twerton and she died on 3rd April 1853 in Newton St Loe aged 77. Edward and Ann had 12 children Ann born 1799, Hester born 1800, John born in 1801, Walter born in 1802 died 1815, Ann born in 1803, Edward born in 1804, Sarah born 1805 who died in 1806, William Pitt born in 1808, Richard (my ancestor) born in 1809, Sarah born in 1810, Mary born in 1812 and Walter born in 1817.

They built Spencer Cottage in Newton St Loe.

He suddenly appeared in Newton St Loe in 1794, to date I have been unable to find any records that detail his earlier life. If anyone has any information about him or his family that I would like to hear from them.
