Kent / Bexley Heath, Kent
« on: Friday 12 April 19 06:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters of Kent.  I have a non-conformist record for the burial of John Gale in the Chapel at Bexley Heath, in 1830 (found it on "Find My Past").  Any clues as to which Chapel this could be?  Online records are very detailed for the Church of England parishes, but not so for the Chapels.  I wonder if the Chapel still exists, with the War and redevelopment since that early time.
thank you,  Meredith.

Australia / Ipswich (Queensland) Cemetery records
« on: Tuesday 05 February 19 10:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Can someone advise me if the burial records for Ipswich General Cemetery are available to Queenslanders (or Australians generally) via accessible databases/print productions? I'm trying to find out if ancestors John Down (died 1862) and his remarried widow Naomi Jeffcoat (died 1888) have headstones/burial locations? I'm finding the searching process rather convoluted, compared to many others I've done.   I can't visit the site personally, so am hoping a local may be able to solve my query.
Thank you, Meredith.

Cambridgeshire / Thomas Beavis of Heath Farm
« on: Saturday 15 September 18 00:55 BST (UK)  »
Can I please have some advice about how to access the Heath Farm records for my ancestor Thomas Beavis/Bevis/Bavis, who lived on/worked on this farm from at least 1841-1861?  When we visited Gog-Magog farm in 2016, we were advised that their historic records have been deposited in a community archive, which we didn't have time to investigate properly at the time.

Thomas Beavis 1794-1864, wife Mary nee Tabor, 1788-1867. Their son Thomas did work on the farm for a while, at least at the time of the 1851 Census. He emigrated to South Australia in 1855, so we know his story from then on.
Thank you,  Meredith.

Inverness / Catholic church records of the Outer Hebrides
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 21:36 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please advise how/where to access BDM records of the Catholic churches of the Outer Hebrides?
Also, was there a Newspaper for the area which would be an accessible resource for family history searching for this area?
Hoping someone can enlighten me,
Thanks, in anticipation, Meredith

Armagh / Emigration from Lisnadill parish
« on: Tuesday 10 November 15 06:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters who know about Irish social history in the 1830's.  My ancestor came from Lisnadill Parish, and with her children, applied for assisted emigration to South Australia.  They applied twice, once apparently in Ireland, then again in November 1839, in Scotland.  They came to SA on the "Tomatin" in March 1840, leaving from Greenock, Scotland.  I'm wondering if this was a "normal" pattern for the time, or is there another reason by the widowed Ann Hanlin and her children Thomas, Letitia ( my ancestor), James and children William and Ellen, made the journey across to Scotland.
Her husband James had died before they emigrated, and I'd like to find his grave, but have had no luck trying to find him.  Griffiths Valuations (1864)had Donnellys and Hanlons in Ballybrolly, but that's not definitive enough, obviously .  Any advice gratefully received.  I'm very new to Irish searching, and am learning fast!  We'll be visiting early next year, so would like to find out as much as I can before we get there!  Thanks, in anticipation,  Meredith (Adelaide, South Australia)

South Africa / Death search
« on: Friday 09 October 15 06:39 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a date of death for Martha Isabella Clark ( nee Love).  Her husband Peter Clark died 16th October 1953 in Far East Rand Hospital, Springs, Transvaal.  I used an archive search to get Peter's death certificate, and some info about their daughter Adeline Alice Love Kingman formerly Coleborn nee Clark.  But I couldn't find anything about Martha.
Is there an online newspaper archive of a local paper which is freely available? Some clues as to which direction to try would be much appreciated.
The Clarks lived at 9 8th Avenue, Geduld, Springs at the time of Peter's death, so maybe Martha stayed there after his death.
Any advice gladly received,
Meredith

Devon / Census location query - "Waterloo" , North Tawton
« on: Saturday 01 August 15 09:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi Devon Rootschatters,
I have a location name of "Waterloo" , North Tawton, for a relative in the 1871 Census.  I can't find Waterloo as a street address; thinking it's the name of a building?
Cheers,
Meredith

Canada / Marriage records for Saskatchewan
« on: Thursday 21 August 14 13:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi Canadian researchers,
Can someone advise me how to access a marriage record for GEORGE HENRY TAYLOR and NELLIE  between 1902 and 1915?  George enlisted in 1915, and listed Nellie as his wife. I suspect the marriage was in Saskatchewan, but that is not proven as yet. Ancestry.com has some Canadian records online, but are very limited.
In advance, THANKS,
Meredith

South Africa / (*Completed with thanks*)Jupiter Gold Mine
« on: Sunday 06 April 14 00:35 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can help with a street address for the Jupiter Gold Mine near Johannesburg. I've found stories of the Mine, and have photographs brought back by my Grandfather who worked in the mine between 1910 and 1914.  A couple of his photos are marked "Catlin Shaft".  Am hoping that there is still some evidence of the complex, as my sister is visiting Johannesburg soon.
Thanks,  Meredith
