Hi, I would like to create a chart showing selected people from an extended family.  Not a pedigree or descendant chart for one line/branch.  Does any genealogy software package allow users to tag individuals and chart only them?

I have been trying to use this site recently & am having trouble.  Has it been corrupted?  Is there any way to access the genealogies within it?

It looks to be a wonderful site.

Longford / Place called "Trichalmon" in Co. Longford?
« on: Tuesday 18 September 12 17:45 BST (UK)  »
I came across a reference to a place called Trichalmon in Longford.  I can't figure out where it is supposed to be.  It is mentioned in the Landed Estate Court records on FindMyPast.  Has anyone any suggestions? Thanks.

Wales / John Price - from Wales to Ireland c1830
« on: Tuesday 08 May 12 22:08 BST (UK)  »
My 2xg-grandfather, John Price c.1803-1870, is supposed to have moved to Ireland from Wales sometime before 1835.  He married Mary Bradly (probably 1835) and they had four children, from 1838 to 1849.  They lived in Clonfert, Co. Galway, Ireland, and farmed on the Butson Estate.  John died there in 1870.

Family stories say he was Welsh but we have no hard evidence for this.  I suspect looking for a John Price from Wales is like looking for a Patrick Murphy from Ireland, but I thought I'd put up a post, just in case. :)

Galway / Clonfert Parish - CofI or other sources?
« on: Monday 31 October 11 20:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have ancestors based in Clonfert Parish prior to 1870.  My g-g-grandfather, John Price, died there in 1870, aged 67.  He appears in GV as living in the Butson estate at Abbeyland Little.  It is thought that he immigrated from Wales c1830, but I have no evidence to prove this.

I am not 100% sure of his religion.  His children were Church of Ireland but John may have been Roman Catholic.  The children seem to have been based in Banagher, Offaly after his death, which is geographically very close to Clonfert.

I am interested in learning more about Clonfert at the time, to try to figure out what church the family may have attended, and where John & his wife might have been buried.  His wife was Mary, probably nee Bradly, and she died in Banagher in 1882.  I don't know where or when they married but the marriage of a John Price & Mary Bradly is recorded in the Index to the Meath Marriage Licence Bonds in 1835.  Their first child was born c1838.

Are there records for the Butson Estate?  Why would someone have moved to East Galway/West Offaly from Wales?  Can you suggest any other sources I could search to find out more about the family?

Thanks  :)

New Zealand Completed Requests / John CHARTRES 1850-?
« on: Thursday 11 August 11 11:36 BST (UK)  »
This man was born in Offaly, Ireland in 1850.  Emigrated to NZ, date unknown but probably 1870s or early 1880s.  Mentioned in a family letter dated 1895:
"There has been no account of John Chartres for the last year and a half.  His address then was 91 Colombo St., Christchurch, New Zealand."

I'm posting this in case anyone else is researching him & would like to compare notes.

I see the NLI is carrying out a survey of their users at the moment, with respect to the best use of resources going forward.
The link to the survey is on their website.

Offaly (Kings) / DYAS in Frankford/Ballyboy
« on: Monday 11 July 11 16:00 BST (UK)  »
I'm interested in learning more about the DYAS family who lived in Ballyboy/Frankford, Co. Offaly, Ireland in the 19th century.

A Lyster Dyass lived there in 1802.

Jane Dyas, from Frankford, was married in Ballyboy Church in 1848. Her father Thomas is described as a shopkeeper. One of the witnesses was John Dyas.

A John Dyas appears there in GV.  He is also mentioned as being a witness to a local murder.

Does anyone have links to the family?
