Warwickshire / Holy Trinity, Bordesley burials
« on: Thursday 10 October 13 15:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a 3rd gt grandfather who was buried here on 17 Nov 1850.

Are there any MIs anywhere which might relate to this church?

I understand that some of the remains were removed during road widening works and also headstones removed when the church was deconsecrated in 1970.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Ive just posted a message on the England general board as Im not sure which County my query relates to ans it now shows to me as pink background with the words "awaiting approval by moderator"

I did include a link to a previous msg I have put on another board ref in this new msg so maybe the security filters think my new msg is spam? Is this no longer permitted, have I dont something wrong?

England / How to find a birth with little info - huge brickwall
« on: Friday 12 April 13 17:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have hit a huge brickwall in my tree.

How do you find a man's baptism in about 1811 when in the 1841 census he is "born out of county" (the census County being Warwickshire at the 1841 census) and he died sometime between the 1841 and 1851 census?

Basically, I am looking for a birth/bapism of a John (H)orton abt 1811 +/- 5 years - in the 1841 census he is a brewer in Salop Street, Birmingham.

I have details of his marriage in 1831 Edgbaston from a fellow RC and no father's name, of course, is given due to the date: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,434716.msg2988454.html#msg2988454

The only pointer is that John Horton's witness was a William Horton (possibly a brother?)

So, how do I go about this now please does anyone have any ideas or is this an end to this particular branch in my tree?

Thanks in anticipation ...

Kent / Deaths of John Henry Amos and Mary Ann Amos nee Spain
« on: Thursday 11 April 13 14:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have spent hours trying to find the death of John Henry Amos, husband of Mary Ann Amos nee Spain, born 1855 Sturry, Kent and indeed her death too. Mary Ann Amos nee Spain was born 1856 Ramsgate.

In the 1891 census he is in Folkestone with his children. Mary Ann is in St Lawrence, Ramsgate
In the 1901 census in Newington, London, Horse keeper, born Sturry.  His wife is is in St Leonards, Sussex.

From the 1911 census, Mary Ann Amos nee Spain is a "widow" living in Folkestone (name is actually Annie Amos) living with her daughter and her family.  I have been able to trace Mary Ann upto 1920 as she is listed as the next of kin on one of her daughter's emigration papers.  I have not been successful in tracing her after this date nor indeed her death either.

Can anyone please help with helping me to trace their death entries and possible burial places please?

I have the marriage of Richard Gifford and Ann Smed from FindMyPast Canterbury Cathedral Archives who were married  24 Dec 1734 St Lawrence, Kent both of this Parish.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether the bride's surname may have been mispelt and suggestions as to what it might be please?  I did wonder whether it was Sined?

publican
licensed victualler

I have all three of these occupations next door to each other in the 1841 St Helier Jersey, Channel Islands census.

Armed Forces / Where is this place?
« on: Friday 01 March 13 08:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Looking for the birth of William Faulkner c1854 as a military birth.

From FindMyPast there is a birth regd 1853 with the strange place name of Woraboro.

The transcriptions states 28th regiment but the actual record itself states 38th.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where this place might be, I presume it has possibly been spelt wrong.

Thanks in anticipation ....

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Canterbury on Familysearch.org
« on: Wednesday 16 January 13 15:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Looking through numerous bmd on Familysearch.org there is no church given, only Canterbury and I wanted to look up the appropriate entries on Find my Past, Canterbury Cathedral Archives.

Does anyone know, please, whether it is possible to ascertain which church the Familysearch.org entry relates to specifically or is it just a matter of trawlling through FindMyPast to find the relevant entries?

An example of this problem I have found is

Sophia Wood baptism
7 June 1767
Canterbury, Kent, England
Batch No. I04796-5

Thanks in anticipation ...
