London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1871 Look up please?
« on: Saturday 23 January 10 08:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am looking for a Florence Fischer on the 1871 census. She is on the 1881 as a servant in Tottenham and then I think the same person on the 1891, Servant again in Hampstead.

I'm trying to ascertain whether she was born in England or whether she came from abroad, although it does state on the census that she was born in Islington.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Regards

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Help! 1871 look up?
« on: Saturday 04 October 08 16:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find my great grandmother Florence Eliza Fisher. She was said to be French!

However she is on the 1901 census living in Fulham and is down as being born in Cambridgeshire, she is married to George Cheshire and she is 34.

I have her marriage certificate December 1892, which states she is 20, with Father George a labourer.

I have been trying to find her for approximately 8 years with no luck!

I have also looked in to different spellings of her name and have been looking at a Florence FISCHER 15 in 1881 who is a servant in Tottenham. There is also a Father George and Mother Eliza living in Phillip Street London. The ages do not match up with Florence as their daughter as they are down as 28. However I would be extremely grateful if some one could try and find them on the 1871, just to put my mind at rest that these people are not her parents. I know that the census records can sometimes have been transcribed wrong.

Thank you for reading!

Hi All,

My great grandmother Florence Eliza, was married to George Cheshire in Fulham in 1892. She is stated as being a spinster aged 20 and father George Fisher a labourer.

Apart from the 1901 census, where she is living in Fulham and her birthplace is stated as Cambridgeshire, I have no other info. I have been trying to research her for 8 years!

I have posted many times on this site, with many king people trying to find her for me.

My father tells me she was French, but nothing at all ties up!

I today got to thinking that maybe she had been married previously and searched in marriages for Florence Eliza (no surname) and trundled through. I have come up with a a Florence Elizabeth Bullivant, married to Samuel Fisher Aston Dec 1888, there is also a death of Samual Fisher in Birmingham 1891?

Is there any chance that anyone can come up with any other info on this couple i.e. where are they in 1891 Did Samuel die and Florence re-marry?

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I'm now clutching at straws! Any help would be very greatly appreciated!

England / Still Completely stuck!
« on: Sunday 04 February 07 14:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'll try and make this as short as possible!

I am researching my great grandmother Florence Eliza Fisher and have been trying to for about 4 years! My grandmother claimed that Florence was French and so the story begins!

I have her marriage cert. Dec 1892 All Saints Church Fulham, she was 20 a spinster and married George Cheshire 28 a Bricklayer. Their respective Fathers are both George. Cheshire was deceased (Bricklayer) and Fisher a Labourer. They were both living at 4 Elysium Cottages, Fulham.

I also have a 1901 census entry for her living at Star Rd Fulham. Her age is stated as 34 and hasband 36. Her birthplace is given as Cambs, Cambridge. As you can see the ages given don't tally.

Added to that I have her death cert. She died in 1915 age given as 41! In Fulham.

I have been trying to locate her birth record but with no success. Many people have helped me look with no luck either.

I am now wondering if she took on the name "Fisher" as one of my other relatives did this. He was registered in his Mother's maiden name and then "changed" his name later when his mother later married. Perhaps Florence's Mother already had her when she met George?

I'm completely stuck and clutching at straws!

Does anyone have any ideas where I can go from here? I have no other information other than what I have given.

Thanks for reading!

World War One / WW1 POW Camps in Germany
« on: Friday 06 October 06 20:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My partner and I are soon going to Germany to visit Hochheim cemetery near Worms, where his great grandfather James Henry Owens Royal Engineers is remembered on a Memorial plaque.

He was held in a prisoner of war camp possibly in the area and we would very much like to find out some more information on the camp that he was in.

Does anyone have any clues as to how we can find out more info on this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks, Jackie

Hi All,

I started my interest in my family tree with research on my great grandmother Florence Eliza Fisher about 6 years ago! I've now completed most other areas in the tree, but still am stuck on Florence!

There is a family tale that she was French, however with a name like Fisher and also that her place of birth on the 1901 is Cambridgeshire, I decided that this once again was one of those "family tales" that was untrue.

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could come up with any suggestions, or if anyone can face looking up any info for me, that would be fantastic!

Info I have:

Marriage cert:
Florence Eliza Fisher 20/26? married George Cheshire 28 Dec 1892 Fulham
Father George Fisher Labourer     Father George Cheshire(decd.)Bricklayer

Death cert. Flora Cheshire Died April 1915 aged 41 Fulham

Census record 1901: 36 Star Rd, Fulham
George Cheshire 36 Bricklayer Born Fulham London
Florence Cheshire 34               Born Cambs Cambridge
George Cheshire 6 son            Born Fulham
Ceila Cheshire 4                       Born Fulham
Lily Cheshire 2                          Born Fulham

As you can see Florence Eliza has also used Flora and just Florence. This is all the information I have on my great grandmother and I would be extremely grateful if anyone can come up with any new info!!!!!!

Many thanks for reading!

Any help at all would be very much appreciated!
