Surrey / private adoption Surrey 1936
« on: Tuesday 02 July 19 13:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to follow up a private adoption of a baby born in Lindsay house East Mosely in 1936. The adoptive parents a took the baby to Hatfield where they lived to register the adoption via Hatfield Juvenile court. It would seem that the property in East Mosely wasn't a maternity hospital and the baby was kept in care in a children's home or hospital where there were several sick babies from poor backgrounds although this baby was very small it survived and thrived after adoption. The baby was born in june 1936 and 'found' in January 1937 in this baby home/hospital but no records exist of this place although the name of baby and mother are known. baby was given a full birth certificate at adoption, no father's name. but regarding the private adoption a reference was made to railway workers. An assumption being made that this was the source of the 'private' aspect of the adoption. The baby now an 83 year old adult is keen to find out more about those missing months between birth and adoption. I am wondering if anyone would know or have heard of a range of facilities such as these for unwed mothers in 1936.I have joined the Surrey national archives site but it is having problems today so I thought I would try my luck on here. Previous requests/replies have been very helpful and I would like to say Thank you for all your help.

Hi Is it possible to check this address in 1936 as I believe my mother Gladys May Jones was a nanny here . she was possibly listed at number 14just to confuse things but she gave her address on a document as number 12. I am interested in these properties as to who owned them. I have tried to find the relevant Kelly's directory for this decade but I was unsuccessful. I hope someone can help.

I am searching this for a friend who lost her grandfather Gunner 6970255 Alfred Henry Edwin Abbott 1915-1943 on a troop ship that allegedly went down off Scotland. His body was recovered and brought home and buried in Woodgrange Park Cemetary in East ham. (Find a grave)Family do not know whether he drowned with his comrades and wonder why they werent all buried together. We went on CwGC but couldnt afford the fee. Does anyone know anything about this incident i.e, ship etc. She would love to find a photo of him if possible. Thank you. Briagh.

Norfolk / Henry Reeve 1695
« on: Tuesday 21 November 17 00:22 GMT (UK)  »
Henry Reeve c1695 married AnnTompkins c 1695 are  at the top of Reeves research. they had had a son Richard Reeve 1618-1683 but as there are a lot of Richard Reeve's he is difficult to follow. I suspect that this is where we added the S to reeve but it is difficult to find anything to confirm this. The Reeves family came from Ireland to Launton Oxfordshire and spread across to norfolk. I wonder if the launton to Cambridge railway line facilitated this. The S carried on for a hundred years or so but was lost around 1719 When Henry Reeve was born to William Reeves c 1725 and Mary Botterill. This might have been due to the Norfolk accent but the reapperance of the S haunts me. Does anyone know the story please?.

Glamorganshire / Grave of Sarah Drayton
« on: Wednesday 02 August 17 00:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi its ages since Ive been on here and when i did ask a question about this person I got a lot of help. I've recently learnt that her son Mervyn Drayton passed away and as I am very keen to find Sarahs  (nee Horrell) grave I wondered if anyone knows of its where abouts. The Family have always been secretive about her grave and I wondered if Mervyn, his father Mervyn and Sarah are in a family grave. Possibly on Pontyprid I have to admit to having a problem with my sight following a stroke which makes life reading things very awkward.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Doncaster 1919 flu epidemic - communal cemetry?
« on: Saturday 05 May 12 17:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi Donny people :)

My grandmother Emily Reeves (b. 1867 nee' Roughton) died in Doncaster in January 1919 in the Spanish Flu epidemic. I have never been able to find out where she was buried and I wonder if there was a communal burial ground at the time. My grandfather usually recorded all relevant information about births and deaths in the family bible but this particular information isn't there. The family were Methodists/Weslyans and lived in Sylvester Street at the time.

Can anyone spread some light on this for me please?

Thanks in anticipation

Lancashire / Hilda Reeves (Snape)
« on: Monday 05 March 12 02:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

Hilda is sending me mad :'(  Her history is impeccable. She was born in 1913 in Fylde to Leonard and Alice Reeves (formerly Hodson, nee Wadsworth), married Jonathan Snape (mistranscriped Suape) in 1934 and promptly vanishes. Jonathan dies in Blackpool in 2000 but I cannot find any trace of Hilda's death or any children they may have had.

I can find the rest of the family but Hilda has gone AWOL - any ideas, pretty please :D

Norfolk / Alfred and Mary Anne Reeves
« on: Monday 02 January 12 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

I wonder if anyone can help me find out the maiden name of Mary Anne, born in Hickling 1873 who married (?) my great uncle Alfred Reeves born 1866 Peterborough 2nd son of Henry and Caroline.

I may be relying on an old family scandal here ;)

I can find them on the 1901 (Alfred mispelt as Affred) etc with Mary Anne's age and  place of birth and their children Pauline born 1894 and Alfred Claud born 1897 but absolutely no marriage or banns any where. They were living in Richmond Surrey in 1901 where both children were born according to the census but again no birth records for Pauline but one for baby Alfred no mmn recorded as too early.

They dissappear after that and no 1911 for them.

I have a vague suspicion that they eventually emigrated to USA but I'm still working on that one.
Our Reeves were prolific users of the Family Naming patterns and names are used over a very extended family so great care is needed here >:(

Help!!
