London and Middlesex / Frederick Albert Lodge, b. circa 1894 (assume England)
« on: Sunday 10 December 23 21:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking for the origins of Frederick Albert Lodge who was married in Glasgow in 1930. He is listed as being 36 years old (b.c. 1894?), a widower and a "newspaper checker". His father is given as Ernest Lodge, a hotel proprietor, and Annie Lodge, now Thompson, m.s. Collor (Spanish I'm told).

Frederick Albert Lodge is not a common name combination in Scotland in my experience within the records and in real life and I can find no prior mention of him or his parents in the Scottish records so I assume he may well have been English.

Long shot I know but does anyone out there recognise this chap, or indeed can suggest a source I can search.

Many thanks  :)

James Willison of Glasgow and Elizabeth Mitchell Ogg from Aberdeen, married Glasgow, 1906. James was one of my great-grandfather's younger brothers and was one of two of his brothers who were born in Ireland during the family's stay of a few years around 1877 to 1881 in Limerick.

I like this photo but it's a shame that it became damaged, discoloured long before reaching me, after being sent back from a distant relative in the USA.

Are there any kind souls out there, who could repair the damage, possibly enhance some of the detail and maybe date the photo?

Many thanks in advance.

Leitrim / Patrick Creamer & wife Margaret nee Dolan (& sons Peter and Patrick) Leitrim
« on: Wednesday 05 January 22 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on a Patrick Creamer and wife, Margaret Dolan who had two sons Peter and Patrick.
From death certs of the 2 sons (in Scotland) I have established from ages at death that Peter was born around 1879 and Patrick around 1883.
On Patrick Junior's death from Typhoid in 1903 in Govan, Glasgow, the certificate states he died aged 20. His dad, Patrick Senior signed the certificate and it states "Curraghnawar, Leitrim, Ireland" under his name. (I think Curraghnawar is a misspelling on the registrar's part. What is the actual place?)
I'm guessing from this that Patrick senior (and wife Margaret) were still resident in Ireland when Patrick Junior died in 1903. I'm also assuming the two boys were born somewhere in Leitrim.
I have found no other record - so far - of Patrick Snr and Margaret in the Scottish records so assume they remained in Ireland.
(BTW, son Peter died in Armadale, West Lothian in 1943 aged 64.)
I would like to track down any info on parents Patrick and Margaret, and their 2 lads Peter and Patrick, and establish if possible who the parents of both Patrick Creamer and Margaret Dolan were.
Can anyone supply any info and/or point me in the correct direction please?
Thank you in advance.

Can anyone help locate a grave please?

George Ruffle (1899-1980) and Agnes Lilian Ransom (1903-1981) one time of Beech Cottages, Marden, Kent were the maternal grandparents of a good friend of mine. His mother, the above couple's daughter was named Georgina Ruffle and born in Feb 1924 in the Maidstone area. Georgina (known as Gina) died in 2019 in Glasgow. Her son would like if possible to inter her ashes in the grave of her parents in Kent.
I believe Agnes L. Ransom died 24 Dec 1981 at Tunbridge Hill, Kent and her husband George died in 1980 in Maidstone.

Can anyone on here with some local knowledge lend any help in identifying where the couple are buried, or suggest other sources for me to enquire on his behalf?

I appreciate that this is probably a bit of a long shot but hoping for the best.
Many thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,
May I ask that you take a look at the attached extract from a marriage certificate for a marriage in Dollar, Clackmannanshire in 1855.
I would like to know the names of the two mothers. (Bride and groom were Agnes Sinclair and Peter McQueen.)

Thank you  :)

Galway / Charles Farren & Catherine Docherty in Connacht
« on: Friday 16 August 19 13:17 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out any info on Charles Farren and his wife Catherine, nee Docherty. I estimate they both were born c. 1840 or so. They had a son named Charles born c. 1865. This son Charles later moved to Glasgow and married Ellen McInally in Bridgeton, Glasgow on 31st October 1889.
This enquiry is on behalf of a descendant of these Farrens, and she believes from family tradition that they originated in Connacht.
I know there is not much to go on but would greatly appreciate any help whatsoever.

If I have posted this in the wrong place then would admin please move to the correct place.
Thank you
JW

Aberdeenshire / Invesway, Aberdeenshire
« on: Monday 13 May 19 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi, a friend in Canada is seeking information on a place called "Invesway" in Aberdeenshire, probably around Clatt. An ancestor of hers (who settled in Canada) a seaman named John Forbes was reportedly born in Invesway in 1835, the info coming from "Master & Mates Certificates".
I can find no reference to Invesway in a Google search. Is there perhaps a place with a similar name, or has the name disappeared or spelling been changed?
Any info appreciated,
thank you

Australia / Elizabeth McCabe, Scotland to Australia, c, 1928
« on: Sunday 27 January 19 19:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Looking for information on Elizabeth Hislop McCabe, born 1901, Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland who emigrated to Australia c. April 1928. (she may have been accompanied by a sister, name unknown at this point).
She (or they) supposedly settled in Sydney and supposedly worked "in service" (as a domestic servant presumably).

Very sparse information I know (supplied by my mother in law who is now 90, the above Elizabeth was her aunt) but can anyone throw any light on this Elizabeth Hislop McCabe who arrived in Australia aged about 27 in 1928, or possibly a subsequent spouse, and descendants?

Thank you in advance for any assistance,

Willison  :)

World War Two / Soldier Alex Farren, Glasgow, WWII
« on: Thursday 18 October 18 12:17 BST (UK)  »
We have this picture of an extended family member and we would like to know which regiment he was in during - or shortly after - WWII. Unfortunately he is wearing an army great coat so no visible clues as to the regiment within a uniform. All that is visible is the cap and the cap badge, albeit this is obscured by repeated reproduction of the photo over the years. My best guess it is a Royal Scots Fusiliers cap badge (an image of a version I have attached).
Can anyone please confirm, or correct my assumption?
Many thanks.
