Breconshire Lookup Requests / Llangamarch nr. Builth look up request
« on: Monday 17 October 11 16:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I wonder if anyone has access to the Llangamarch parish registers..west of Builth, Irfon Valley way. I understand they go back to 1763 and I have a Samuel Parry marked on census in 1851 as being from there in c.1771.  He is marked as 80 in 1851 living with daugher and family in Cilmery. I know of just her as a daughter, Mary Parry born LLanleonfel in 1799.  If anyone has access to the LLangamarch registry info it would be nice to see if he appears.

Nottinghamshire / Recognise this Edwinstowe House of 1900?
« on: Tuesday 27 September 11 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi
A granddaughter of my partner's ancestor returned to the house where her mother was born in Edwinstowe in 1900.. she came for a visit from Illinois. What I would like to know is whether house still stands. I realise that anything could have happened between 1900 and now.  The house might still be standing or could have been knocked down a few days later or could have been hit by a truck, etc, etc.  However, someone on site may know Edwinstowe...

Thanks
Seth

World War Two / Completed - Can he be world war 2? Welsh Guards Uniform Query
« on: Friday 02 September 11 16:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi
This is believed to be Fred Vizard, who was born in 1920 and served with Welsh Guards, before being captured and sent to polish prisoner of war camp...appearing again after war.
It has been suggested that possibly the uniform is too old for second world war? I understand older uniforms were handed out early in war, old stock. Can anybody with knowledge of Welsh guards confirm that the uniform is of ww2 period or is of sightly older type that could have been handed out in early days?

Thanks:
Seth

Hi
Can anyone give me a date on this photograph?  Perhaps because of the hat? The man sitting was injured in a mining accident c. 1926, but this photograph is believed to date from after, yet whilst he was still young. He was born in 1900, she in 1905. They lived in a mining village near Barnsley.
Thanks: Seth

Armed Forces / Zulu War Veteran
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 22:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I have a query connected with a soldier of the Zulu War.

Arthur Antcliffe - mis-spelt Autcliffe on a medal - was in the 57th of Foot. His campaign medal of 1879 still exists in the family.  In addition to the medal there is a photograph which is of him, or so the family think.  Does anyone out there know if the uniforms in the attached photograph fit with the 57th of Foot in the general period of the 1879 Zulu War?

Also, any suggestion for sources of further information on either his career or the activity of the regiment in 1879 would be very welcome.

Best wishes:

Hi
It is had been claimed that this is a photograph (oldest male in it) of a relation who died in 1853. I wonder whether the experts here could say whether it is at least possible..whether this photograph at least could be that old. I have not seen orginal and do not currently have access to any more information about it (sadly)
