United States of America / Family connection
« on: Wednesday 16 December 20 02:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all, My gr grandmother Elizabeth McQuade married, 2nd time, Benjamin Rothwell in Killucan Ireland. Two sons Benjamin and William were born. Benjamin went to the USA and I am searching for him. He arrived at New York in 1880, married Jemima Goodwin and had 3 children. Elizabeth, Benjamin and Rinjie. By 1910 Benjamin is widowed and I am having difficulty following him and his family. I am hopeful that there may be some family to be found. Can anyone help please.

London and Middlesex / Inquest/death cert needed for death circa 1800s. ?
« on: Wednesday 02 September 15 07:12 BST (UK)  »
A new line on an old topic. Robert Wickham supposedly fell overboard on the way back to England from Sth Africa. It would be somewhere between 1813 when their last child was born and  when Ann his wife left England for the USA in 1837. Question. Would there be any inquest or investigation into his disappearance, an interest note in a newspaper or would Ann have received an official notification that he was lost and she was now a widow. Surely some official notice of his disappearance would have been forthcoming or was it too early for that sort of official handling of a citizens disappearance. I have a signature of Roberts and a signature of a Robert Wickham a stonemason who bobs up in Sth Africa at almost the same time frame and says he was born in England but lived in the Caribean and then came to Sth Africa. To my untrained eye his signature and Robert (Engl) look remarkably the same. Coincidence - the same name and stonemasons too.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

United States of America / Death of Anna Theresa Deekin/en
« on: Friday 25 April 14 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Anna Theresa Reinhard m Charles A Deeken/in on 6/1/1860 in NYC. Charles was a jeweller and the only reference to him I find is in a directory for 1868 where he is at 95 Delancey Street NYC. I believe its his brother George C Deeken a cabinet maker at 28 East 4th Broadway also listed. I cannot find any other information about them or their businesses. On 12/11/1872 Charles died in Jersey City of Concussion Intern, what ever that was, and is buried in Trinity churchyard in my familys plot although there is no family connection so he must have been held in great affection by them to be taken from Jersey City and buried with them. Anna goes to live with her sister Pauline Ewald and they are still together in 1920 in Ward 9, Jersey City. I am told she lived to 90 but I can't find her. I cannot find her death and where she is buried. Any information about the above people would be greatly appreciated.

Meath / McQuade and Rothwell in Westmeath
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 00:38 GMT (UK)  »
Slowly my family is being pieced together but still a few gaps & if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Thomas McQuade (son of Thomas McQuade) born c1828 married 13.0.1851 Taghmon Westmeath Elizabeth Bell born c1823 (daughter of Thomas Bell).
Children.  Alice - to Australia. 1883 ship manifest has her aged 29.
Thomas - Born c 1854 stays home and on 1911 census his wife is Anne and daughter is Elizabeth age 2.
Elizabeth - to Australia with Alice. Manifest has her aged 23.Elizabeth was my Grandmother.
Thomas dies date unknown and then Elizabeth (Eliza) married Benjamin Rothwell (born c1823) on 10th Feb 1866 at Killucan Mullingar, Westmeath. She died 1908 in Mullingar aged 76.
Children. Benjamin born 22.11.1867 Killucan.
William Andrew born 3.6.1869 Westmeath Ireland m Alice Willden 20 Dec 1896 London.
I cannot find Benjamin at all.
William Andrew had 4 children as per the 1911 census for England. The only girl Louisa died. On the marriage entry William Andrew said his father was a Police Sergeant (deceased) but I havn't had any success following that up.
If anyone can help to fill in the gaps or point me in the right direction I would be so grateful. So close but yet so far to go. Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2014.

« on: Sunday 28 October 12 01:29 BST (UK)  »
Robert and Sarah Wickham lived in Barming Kent. Robert was my 4xgr grandfather and he and Sarah had 2 sons Robert b1780 and Joseph b1781. Robert Snr was a Parish Clerk and I would like to find out how he would have come to be a Clerk, if there are records about him in his capacity as Clerk and in fact anything at all about him and their life in Barming. On the 4th Nov 1780 Robert paid 3shillings & 6d towards repairs of the Parish Church of East Barming. He was renting and the rent was 7 pounds.
