Iīm hoping someone out there can stop me tearing my hair out, as I donīt have a lot of it left. My 4xg.grandfather John Gilbert married Elizabeth Wadge in Altarnun 26/7/1787. I was originally given his date and place of birth as 1755 in Altarnun but have never been able to find this baptism, or any trace of him in or around Altarnun before his marriage. I was extremely lucky a couple of weeks ago, to be given a completely different possible baptism, 3/10/1751 in Stoke Climsland - a very real possibility combined with other information I have on the Wadge family. If this be he, then his parents were John Gilbert (hardly surprising) and Jinny Pascho, both of and married in, Stoke Climsland. Diligent research and begging letters have been totally unable to turn up either of them, with any spelling of the name Pascho, in that area - she could have been Jone, Joan or Jane and the spellings of Pascho are numerous - within the age bracket though two possibilites exist of baptisms nearby around 1714/1716, which would have made John snr. and Jinny in their 30s when they married and either or both could have been married before. I have an extensive list of Gilbert and Pascho births in a large area in east Cornwall, but itīs a case of not being sure that the John born in Stoke Climsland IS my 4.g.granddad. If there is anyone who can help in any way at all I will be eternally grateful...
