Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / ANNIE ELIZABETH STEPHENSON 1884
« on: Thursday 10 December 09 18:53 GMT (UK)  »
Annie Elizabeth Stephenson was born out of wedlock in 1884 Brompton, Scarborough. Mother was Alice Hannah Stephenson 1868 (Brompton) -1963.
Alice was also born out of wedlock to Ann Stephenson who later married James Boyes.
Annie was raised in Scarborough by her grandmother Ann (Stephenson) Boyes but listed on census info as a niece.
Annie's mother Alice Hannah Stephenson was my great grandmother, and later married John Lishman. They had 2 sons which Annie may never have known about.
I am looking for any information of Annie Elizabeth Stephenson available after the 1901 census.

They farmed at Burn of Halkirk, next to brother William, then later at Harpsdale.

In 1891, their son George Macdonald was still farming in Harpsdale and taking care of his mother Williamina.
Soon after he moved to Bardemerkie, Halkirk, still farming and shows a wife Christina with children George and James.
He died in 1942, still married to Christina Waters/Taylor, and lived at Church Street, Halkirk.
Another son, Donald Mcleod Macdonald witness at his death, and living at Braal Terrace, Halkirk. Donald married Margaret Mary McMenemy. They had children; George Macleod Macdonald 1927, James McMenemy Macdonad 1928, Lilian Macleod Macdonald 1934, Raymond Macdonald 1937, all born in Halkirk.

Hi all,

Scotland / Sinclairs... missing link.
« on: Friday 24 July 09 16:17 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find a missing link in my Sinclair line.???
I've traced my family line back to:-
Helen Sinclair, died1858(Halkirk),
married George Macdonald1799(Halkirk),
children -
Christian 1800,
George 1803,
William 1806,
Isobel 1809,
John 1810,
Isabel 1815.
I could not find a record of Helen's birth. Her father is listed as George Sinclair on her death cert, but no mother's name. Informant was listed as George Sinclair, son(signed with an X) so may have been illiterate.
The birth/baptism records for her children include the following people as witnesses:-
George Sinclair &Christian Henderson, 2x, (in Framside)
Margaret McKay, 2x (in Framside)
Janet Sinclair,(in Framside)
Donald Bain & Elizabeth Gunn,

I turned my search towards what I presume to be family names of George Sinclair, Christian Henderson, Margaret McKay, as they appear several times with Helen's children.
Birth records for children of George Sinclair & Christian Henderson(married in Framside,1781)include (but not limited to)the following witnesses:-
John Gunn,
Christian Bain,
William Sinclair & Margaret McKay.
Witnesses for some of the children born to William Sinclair & Margaret McKay include:-
George Sinclair & Christian Henderson ( for George 1788)
Christian Henderson (for Isabel 1792)
George Sinclair , Helen Sinclair (for Margaret 1794)
There's an obvious link between these families, but I don't know where to find it.
Jane.
I have also posted on the Caithness board for help with this.

Aberdeenshire / Sutherland.Robert,Tom,Alfred,Edith,&John.
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 02:51 BST (UK)  »
Parents were William and Mary Kay, both born abt 1850. The whole family was born in North Shields, and 1881 census places them at 12 Toll Square, but by 1891census had moved to Nigg, Aberdeen. Tom Simpson Sutherland was my grandfather. He was married to Margaret Campbell Tait, from Wick Caithness and died when my dad was very young. Little is known about him. I believe I have traced his birth registration, but cannot find his marriage cert, or death cert.
If anyone can help, or is connected to this family; I would love to hear from you.
Thanks, Jane.

« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 15:12 BST (UK)  »
I have traced my father's family(Sutherland) on his mother's (Tait)(my grandmother's) side
back to the death cert. of George Macdonald sep 24th 1880, age 85. His mother was Helen Sinclair, married to George Macdonald, a crofter, all from Caithness. Where do I find information for these people?
Jane.
