Cavan / Parish of Edentariff near Belturbet
« on: Saturday 30 August 14 18:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, Have got the attestation papers for John Mccall for the Crimea in 1854. He puts down Parish Edentariff, Belturbet, Cavan for his birthplace. I have only found a mention of Edentariff in a piece written about a journey around Lough Erne describing it as being a few miles from Belturbet. Have not found it on any old map have looked back to 1830 and no sign of it. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Essex / Ernest Christian Twigger.
« on: Friday 01 February 13 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all. Have just found a new member of my Twigger family tree,Ernest Christian Twigger, born 1899 West Ham, Essex who died in 1918 at the Somme in 1st WW. His father Richard James Twigger was the son of Eusebius Twigger who came from a long line of Twiggers from Bedworth Warwickshire. The family moved from Bedworth to work on the railways in London.I'm really looking for someone who might have photos or information about this part of the family.Ernest had at least one sister Florence Louisa, and two brothers, Richard William and Henry Thomas.Richard James Twigger married Louisa Alice Wyatt from West Ham. Have found a photo of a family grave and his war grave cemetary in Northern France but wonder if anyone has this family in their family tree and could give me any more info. Thanks a lot. Euansma.

United States of America / Benjamin and Carrie Grills.
« on: Monday 14 November 11 19:23 GMT (UK)  »
Researching some family history for a friend. Her great grandfather Benjamin Grills and daughter Carrie who were born in Kilkeel, Co. Down Ireland appear in the 1910 US census living in Pittsburgh. I believe Carrie (Caroline) married and lived in Detroit. We think that Benjamin eventually returned home to Kilkeel.Does anybody researching the Grills family recognise their names? Benjamin's wife was Sarah Caroline Hanna and their children's names were Cora Mabel, Reginald, Thomas Joseph, Meta, Caroline and possibly Martha. Sarah, Reginald, and Carrie followed Benjamin to America in 1898 but left a couple of years later. She was back in Kilkeel for the 1901 census. Would be grateful for any info. Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Query description on census?
« on: Friday 10 July 09 13:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi wondered if anybody else has come across something similar in their research.I have a 1861 census for the Edwards family living in Adforten area on Herefordshire /Radnorshire borders. The person I was looking for is Reuben Lloyd who is described in relation to Benjamin Edwards Head of the family as "missing child".Benjamin's wife Esther's family name was Lloyd but he is too young to be her child born out of wedlock. Will have to get his birth certificate I think, although that may give more questions than answers.Would be very interested if anyone has seen something similar. Thanks Euansma.

Family History Beginners Board / Birth in Union workhouse.
« on: Friday 26 June 09 14:10 BST (UK)  »
Wondering if its usual that babies born in the workhouse are illegitimate.I have a relative and her birth certificate has her born in Abergavenny workhouse in 1899.The birth certificate states the father's name, the mother's husband, but the name is then crossed out and initialled by the registrar. So I'm not sure whether he is the father or not.Any ideas anyone. Hope to hear from someone who has had a similar problem. Thanks Euansma.
