Armagh / Loughen Family
« on: Wednesday 10 October 12 09:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to find some info on the Loughen family. The info I have is of Patrick LOUGHEN born abt 1820 Roughgilly, Armagh. His parents as listed on his emirgration papers are John and Mary. His death Certificate in Australia shows the father as Patrick. He was married to Ellen Collins prior to leaving in 1843 on the ship 'Herald' for Australia which arrived Jan 1844. No children listed. The surname on shipping records is LOUGHLAN
I have many variations once he arrives in Australia which as as follows:
Loughen
Lockery
Lockeren
Loughlan
Lurnan
Loughrane
Lachin
Loughren

These variations are found on his death cert, his wife's death cert and all his childrens birth certificates. There seems to be a huge mess up with the name as by the time the children marry and die it changes to Lockery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as records in Ireland are difficult to find. Thanks

United States of America / Morgan Military

Hi,

I am trying to gain some info on Horace James Morgan, B: 6 June 1917 or 16th July 1917 in Mississippi D: 13 June 2004 in Texas. I recently found a record that states he joined the army on the 7 July 1938. I'm hoping to get some info from his enlistment records BUT am unable to locate them on Ancestry or Fold 3. I thought I had his SSN on the Social Security Death Index but am unable to locate the number now. He may have live in Louisiana at some point and I found a 1930 Census with a Horace J Morgan at Fort Worth. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Other Countries / Lawry in Calcutta
« on: Saturday 11 August 12 14:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to break a brick wall in my family tree but unfortunately I am getting limited info on FIBIS and Family Search. I am wondering if anyone may have any tips on how to get info or even certificates from India.
I am trying to research William LAWRY who is described as a Ship Captain on Family Serach when he married Isabella Wortley PORTEOUS in 1865 in Calcutta (I am unsure of where and when she is born). There is a listing on Lloyd's Register of Ship Captains for two William Lawry's but after looking at the 2 it appears plausible that he was born in 1825 at St Just, Cornwall and was registered as a Captain in 1855 (I am unable to find a ship listed where he is the master but I have many more listings to go through).
William LAWRY had 4 children (John Alfred, Arthur Edmund, Mary Hannah and Blanche Winifred) with Isabella in Calcutta and I found what I believe to be his death in 1884 in Calcutta. Isabella died in Calcutta in 1904 (she appears to have not remarried).
I have Isabella's fathers name as William H Porteous. William is a little harder as the LAWRY's seem to be a relatively common family in Cornwall at the time.
If anyone could help with any ideas to confirm parentage or even where I could find further info in regards to the ship's and their Captains/Masters (I'm searching Lloyd's Register of Shipping) I would be grateful.

Thanks.

US Lookup Requests / Harry John Dayton Buffalo New York
« on: Monday 10 October 11 15:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to find out and verify some info on Hary John DAYTON born about 1875 in Buffalo, New York.
I believe but need verification that his parents were John Guernsey/George Dayton born about 1845 and served in the Civil War in the 116th Regiment Infantry Union and a Mary Rosa (surname unknown) but married a Philip BALD in Buffalo after John DAYTON passed away in about 1890? Like I said I'm unsure of some info.

The info I have is Harry John is listed on the 1892 US Census as living in Buffalo with Philip Bald and Mary R Bald and may have enlisted in the US Army in 1898 and again in 1899 after being discharged the first time and the second time it's listed he deserted. Does anyone have access to American Newspapers that could confirm this as it may be listed that he was a deserter? He then arrived in Tasmania, Australia in 1901 (did he leave USA because he deserted?) and was charged with larcency upon arrival with 2 other men. He then married Eleanor Fitzpatrick in Tasmania in 1908 and lived the rest of his life in Australia and I believe he died in QLD in 1957 (it appears he left his family behind in Tassie). I found a newspaper article for Harry and Eleanor's marriage in Tasmania and it lists his parents as the late John G Dayton and Mrs Philip Bald of Buffalo NY.

Harry seems to be a bit of a character and I have become interested in him, despite the fact he is not my family relative but a close friend of mine who has talked me into doing their tree (which wasn't too hard). I hope I have provided enough info.

Cheers.

Lancashire / James Davies and Ellen McHale
« on: Sunday 09 October 11 16:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been trying to research James Davies and Ellen McHale who were married in 1917 in Rochdale. I've ordered their marriage Cert and James is listed as a Fireman RN and Ellen is a Munition Worker. Now based on Ellen's occupation and the time of marriage I gathered that James was a Fireman in the Royal Navy. Unfortunately due to the common name its hard to find him and I don't have an exact date of birth. Anyway would I be correct in think it's Royal Navy or could it stand for something else? Also does anyone know where the Ammo Factory was in Lancashire that would be near Rochdale or is there somewhere I can obtain records about it?

Thanks.

United States of America / Morgans amd McCranie in Mississippi
« on: Monday 05 September 11 12:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find out the lineage of a James William Morgan and Dora McCranie who married approx around 1917, possibly in Miss.
I know they had one son in 1917 in Miss by the name of Horace James Morgan. I found his parents names in his obituary from 2004.
I have searched all over Ancestry and Family Search, but either I've missed it or I'm looking in the wrong place. I'm not too familiar with American records and as I live in Australia it's hard to get hold of them.
Also I should mention that as far as I know both patie were Caucasian.

Thanks.

« on: Monday 18 April 11 07:25 BST (UK)  »

I'm trying to find some info on Elsie May Marsden B:1927 D:1988. it's believed her father name was Edward William Marsden born in Wellington (unsure of Aus or NZ) and either Milly Ann or Lilly Ann, unknown maiden name. Elsie never married and possibly resided in the  coogee and thornleigh area and possibly dural. She had a brother named 'teddy' Marsden and was a minister. I believe he may be deceased also. Any help would be great. Searched nsw bdm for a marriage but unable to find one. Thanks.

United States of America / Horace James Morgan
« on: Tuesday 29 March 11 14:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am having problems trying to track down some info on Horace James Morgan's parents.
Horace was born in 1917 at Mississippi and died in 2004, his parents were James W (Morgan or Douglas) and Dora McCranie. I'm unable to find any info on his parents. There's a possibility that Dora had Horace to either James W Morgan and then remarried to James Douglas. It's abit of a mystery at the moment. Any help would be great, I'm unavble to find a match on the Census's. Thanks.

United States of America / Morgan Marriage

Hi,

I am trying to locate some information in regards to Horace James Morgan who was possibly born in Alabama (I don't know a year but it would be in the early 1900's) and married in Texas (possibly Nacgodoches). I'm unable to locate a birth or marriage for him as I need to locate his parents names (His son THINKS there may be a surname of Douglas for one of the parents).

Horace married Rachel Broyles (nee Barrett). Rachel was married to a Claude Broyles (this info has been given to me by Rachel and Horaces's son).

Horace had 2 children with Rachel and then I believe they separated and Rachel remarried.

I have tried familysearch but haven't been able to locate anything. I'm not very familiar with American records which confuse me.

Thanks
