Technical Help / Scanning old negatives - 120 etc
« on: Friday 21 September 18 15:45 BST (UK)  »
I expect this question has been asked before, but here goes.

I bought a box sized scanner to cope with the volume of colour slides and 35mm negatives that i have inherited from my family. I haven't got a flat bed scanner that will run on my Windows 10 desktop, got an elderly one that runs on my elderly XP laptop. That scanner will notionally scan my 120 & 220 Black & White negatives, but the programme is frankly CR*P and i cannot get a decent image from it.

Any suggestions of what i should do, I am thinking of ditching the laptop anyway, only kept it for this sort of operation.....but it drives me up the wall, I've got used to W10 and XP isn't supported.

Thanks

Technical Help / Can't get into my email via my devices
« on: Tuesday 22 November 16 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
I have a ipad, samsung  Galaxy J5 and use Office 2010 on my desktop for email calendar and contacts. Until now have been able to get my email and updated events etc on all the devices....without any warning I cannot get my devices to sync or receive emails anymore. The only way I can do so is logging into the net and accessing my stuff there.

I am using Windows 10, until now without a problem....any suggestions. My phone keeps saying "couldn't sign in".

Somerset / Herbert Sydney GOFF/GOUGH or TAYLOR b1864 Wellington
« on: Saturday 22 October 16 16:50 BST (UK)  »
I have this man in various censuses, from 1881, but cannot find him, or his mother.

He was born 3 May 1864 Rockwell Green, Wellington, illegitimate son of Matilda GOFF. I have a baptism (from Ancestry) of a Herbert Sydney GOSS s/o John & Matilda on 19 Dec 1864....which i think is a cover-up by the family.

Matilda married Eli Taylor in Wellington on 14 April 1870 at Wellington Parish Church. Her father was John.....

Cannot find Eli and Matilda in 1871 either, they are in Llandaff, Cardiff in 1881, and Herbert is there with the family. There is a child born 1871 in Bristol, but not a trace of them...the children of Herbert in 1911 are in either the Cardiff workhouse or in a cottage home, which is another avenue I will pursue.

Anyone interested in this family, or can some clever clogs find some of them in 1871??

Thanks

After searching for years I have finally found my ggrandfather's ships, (at least two of them) from the CLIP project.

He is listed as AB on the two above ships:
Flying Cloud, Cowes, 7895,built at Lymington
Cinderella, 68901, built at Rutherglen...

Despite fumbling my around, looked at the ShipsList, I don't seem to get any further. Probably need to go to Kew to fumble around more. Would like to find a photo of either ship, and perhaps find out where they sailed?

Would love some hints please

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Laura Anne Millen - reputably born Portmouth 1840 ish
« on: Monday 19 January 15 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage of Robert WARREN and Laura Anne MILLEN on 16th August 1859, she says her father's name is Francis, a labourer. In 1861 the couple are living in Portsea Island RG9/639/f40.

By 1871 Robert has remarried as a widower, and I know most about him and second marriage. But I cannot find any trace of Laura Anne in any other census, nor am sure when she died and if there were any children of this marriage.

Any ideas?

Census and Resource Discussion / Has FamilySearch changed?
« on: Tuesday 27 May 14 13:52 BST (UK)  »
Has Family Search changed? Do you now have to "log" in before saving/printing an entry you may find? Every time I find a record that looks promising, the page disappears and this appears
