Canada / 1960s Canadian Death Certificate
« on: Friday 07 June 19 19:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm not familiar with Canadian records hence this very basic question. Would a death certificate from 1962 show both the deceased parents? It was a John McKenzie and as his grave is in Toronto I'm presuming he died there.
Many Thanks

I think this might be around 1952...my mother and her pal walking up the Murraygate in Dundee. Could someone please straighten this photo up and if possible make it into an oval...any improvement much appreciated. I'm afraid I can't rescan as this was sent as a scan I know this is not ideal.
Thanks

Perthshire / Parents of Margaret Robertson born Blairgowrie abt 1778
« on: Saturday 30 September 17 16:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,
Margaret Robertson is my 4xs great grandmother and on her death certifcate her parents are given as John Robertson (farmer) and Jane Thomson. On the census her birthplace is consistently given as Blairgowrie and her age is fairly consistent over the decades, 1841 age 60, 1851 age 71 then in 1861 age 82- when she died in 1863 her is age was given as 85. So looking for a birth to the above parents around 1778.

There is a birth for a Margaret to a John Robertson and a Helen Thomson in Blairgowrie in 1778...from the OPR that child was born at Hillburns. Around this time there are seven births showing in Blairgowrie for a John Robertson and a 'Thomson' - six of those list a Jean Thomson as the mother - only Margaret's birth lists the mother as Helen. I obtained the OPR for a Joseph Robertson born 1780 he too is showing born at Hillburns but his mother is down as Jean (although it looks to have been altered?). Jean/Jane not a problem but Helen? There is a marriage for a John Robertson and a Jean Thomson in 1762 alas no mention of Hillburns. In 1841 Margaret is living at Hillburns with her husband Donald Scott! Not sure if there is anything else I can do to establish if Helen is Jean/Jane?
Thanks

Hi Everyone,
More of Dundee's Findlay MacDiarmid's handwriting to decipher. This is the 1890 death cert for Patrick Reilly husband of Catherine Toner, address is 123 Blackscroft Dundee - this much I can read. I think his father might be a Frances? Mother a Mary ????. Can anyone make out her maiden name.
Thanks

Scotland / Angus ploughman's art - or just a bonny picture?
« on: Tuesday 06 June 17 18:12 BST (UK)  »
This picture hung above my Grandmother's mantlepiece in Montrose for as long as I can remember. All I know is that it was framed in Brechin in the 1930s - it was supposedly painted by a grieve she was seeing at the time ::) ? Has anyone seen anything like this before? The background is naive in the extreme but the details on the horses is pretty precise. When my father died the picture came to me. I'm not sure if it's not some sort of aide memoire for dressing the horses or just a picture of two horses. I think it's a bonny picture my hubby thinks it's a piece of old tat!

Australia / Hilda Burgess arrives Australia 1914 and then?
« on: Sunday 28 May 17 14:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Hilda Burgess (age 5) along with her mother Anne Burgess (nee Jolly) and brother Frederick Jolly Burgess arrived in Australia in 1914. I've accounted for Anne, her husband Walter Henry Campbell Burgess and son Frederick Jolly Burgess through to their deaths but I've found no trace of Hilda post her arrival in 1914. In 1933 her parents and brother are living at 36, Newlands Street, Waverley, NSW but no sign of Hilda - I've not been able to find a death or marriage for her.

Technical Help / PC keeps losing the printer...
« on: Saturday 20 May 17 16:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Running Windows 10 the printer is an Epson xp - 510 the problem is the computer keeps losing sight of the printer (when it goes into sleep mode) and the only way back is if I go to 'settings 'and add the printer again. The computer does not lose sight of the scanner element of the printer - so I can always scan but never print! I'm using the printer via a wifi connection and I really don't want to connect via usb - does anyone have a solution?
Thanks
Jen
