Hi,

Can anyone please tell me what the wording in the box in Column 8, Row 10 says?

I can read the bottom part "present at birth, 29 Henry St" but haven't a clue about the couple of lines above that.

Thank you,
Sarah

The Common Room / Clarification of phrase on Death Certificate
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 15:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I have just got the death certificate of my Dad's Great Aunty - was going to upload it but file was too large   ::)

Death:  Mitral Stenosis

Occupation: Domestic Servant, Daughter of David Evans and then gives his occupation.

Signature, Description and Residence of informant: "William Lewis causing the body to be buried 4 Middle Taff Street Merthyr"

Neither of us have seen this phrase before - could someone please explain it ?  We don't know who William Lewis is and as her father was mentioned on the certificate I would have thought he would have been the informant.

Also, my dad is querying why it says ".....after post mortem without inquest" in the Cause of Death column? I'm assuming as they were able to diagnose Mitral Stenosis an inquest wasn't needed?

Any help / clarification most welcome

Thanks
Sarah  :)

The Common Room / Opinions - Helpful or Not
« on: Monday 17 October 16 13:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Would just like your opinions.

I have a relative who was married twice and had children both times.  I have never found a divorce certificate or marriage certificate for his 2nd marriage so it could have been bigamy as his first wife was not dead - would make her a bigamist and liar too as she remarried later on and I have the certificate! About 4 years ago I was contacted by a lady and we established that we share the same relative, this lady said she and her siblings thought there were skeletons in the family as the "elders" would not talk about things from the past.  I tactfully said I knew a lot but she might not like everything, long story short, she asked and didn't like it and I never heard from her again but that was her choice and I really don't mind.

My question, I am a member on another site (like most of us are) and had some hints and on looking at them this relative crops up again.  There was a link to a tree open to the public and there he with his first wife (that one I know was legal) and their children but no mention of the 2nd wife and children.

Would you see it as someone being helpful if contacted and told about the 2nd wife (possible illegal / bigamous marriage) and children or not want to know.  should I leave it alone ?  I know that this is not the same woman who contacted me before plus this individual lives in the USA whereas the other lady lived in the UK.

I would want to know but don't want to upset this person I have never had contact with.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Back of Photo Frame
« on: Tuesday 12 July 16 08:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Would just like some fresh eyes / opinions on the wording on the back of the frame.  It is all very clear apart from the name of the street which has a black mark through it.  Looks as though it starts with a B and has a U in it but either side of ??

Thanks.

The Common Room / Help with Name on 1939 Register
« on: Friday 08 January 16 13:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I’m hoping someone can help, I have found my Great Aunt Bertha on the 1939 Register with her husband William A Bullen and their first 2 children.  However, Bertha’s surname has been crossed out  and the name Smith written above it and some notes made in the column to the left.  I have no idea what these notes may refer to and wonder if anyone knows or has an idea what they may be.  I've attached a copy of the register.

Bertha’s maiden name is Edwards and she was not married before William, at least, not to anyones’ knowledge.  She was born in 1891 in Kingston-upon-Thames and in the 1911 census she is single and still using the surname Edwards.  She married William Bullen in 1917.

All ideas welcome.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Bride's Fathers Surname
« on: Tuesday 22 December 15 07:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I'm after some help, fresh eyes / ideas as to the surname of the Bride’s father.  I cannot see any letter on any of the other words that look remotely like the first letter of his surname.  The name looks as though it ends in double g.

I’m sure it will be clear to someone  :)

Thank you
Sarah

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Fresh Eyes and Opinions again..
« on: Wednesday 18 March 15 12:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Twice in one day and still to do with Charles Wilson and Sarah Jane, I'd be grateful if you would take a look at the attached and see if you can make out of the surname of the Next of Kin.  To me it looks as though it says "Sister" and then "Lucy Ratchet" ???? or Lucy something.   Unfortunately, the quality is quite poor.

Thank you.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Fresh Eyes needed - Marriage Certificate
« on: Wednesday 18 March 15 08:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I need some fresh eyes and opinions re the name of the father of the bride on the attached Marriage Certificate.

The person whose family this relates to has told me what he thinks but I'm not so sure but once someone has said what they think I tend to keep looking and thinking they must be right.

Thank you.
