London and Middlesex / Watchorn Family of London Middlesex and Lambeth
« on: Saturday 20 April 13 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Do you have a London Middlesex or Lambeth Watchorn?

Do you know where they were born or where they ended up? I would love to hear from anyone else who is trying to piece together the Watchorn family in London. I have several names but can't find a connection.

I have started with William Watchorn (1797-1854) who marries Susannah Eliza Perkins on 16 June 1817 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster. I know they emmigrate to Tasmania in 1824 and have their family well sorted so don't need any more info on them. I would like to know who William Watchorn's parents are and where he was born.

I have also found and would like to know if anyone has found a connection:

John Henry Watchorn (1799-1850) who married Catherine Fenton on 12 May 1817 at St George Hanover Square. He runs several pubs and Wine Vaults.

Jane Watchorn who married Robert Gray on 22 June 1794 at St Marylebone, Middlesex.

Eliza Watchorn who married Thomas John Dakers  on 11 Dec 1805 at St Giles in the Fields, Holborn.

Harriet Watchorn (1788-1844 Lambeth) who married John Joseph Gaskarth on 20 Dec 1807 at St Giles in the Fields.

Susannah Watchorn (abt 1789-1833 Clerkenwell - only a possible death) who married Richard Rolf on 2 Nov 1813 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster. She is a witness to the marriage of the above John Henry Watchorn.

Henry John Watchorn (possibly 1803-1852 Lambeth).

Henry Webb Watchorn (b1803 St Andrew Holborn) - parents Thomas and Ann.

Joseph Watchorn (1761-1819 St George, Bloomsbury) who married Susannah Ball 17 dec 1781 at St James, Piccadilly.

J H Watchorn - Linen Draper at 44 Oxford Street who is bankrupt in 1817 and lived on George Street Marylebone.

Thomas Blamire Watchorn (b1794) and Charles Watchorn (b1796) both children of Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Blamire) Watchorn baptised 3 July 1796 St Sepulchre, Holborn. Thomas is a Linen Draper from Leicester and married Elizabeth Blamire on 12 May 1793 at Carlise.

William Watchorn who married Sophia Pegram (widow) on 23 Feb 1791 at St Bololph, Bishopsgate.

Henry Watchorn born about 1800, buried 11 April 1831, Clerkenwell.

James Watchorn a Tallow Chandler of London who takes on an apprentice John Lamber on 7 April 1774. (My original William Watchorn is a Tallow Chandler when he emigrates to Tasmania).

Also found with spelling variation:

Joseph Whison bap 15 Sep 1771 St Botolph Without Aldgate to parents James and Elizabeth.

James Wishin bap 5 Jan 1806 St Botolph Without Aldgate to parents Joseph and Ann

William Wishoon bap 22 Sep 1779 St Martin In The Fields to parents Peter and Sarah

Jane Washarn buried 4 May 1842, St Giles, Camberwell

Giles Witchorn buried 13 Sep 1810, St Martin In The Fields, Westminster

John Watchon born about 1771, buried 27 Oct 1831, St Lukes, Chelsea

Sarah Watchon born about 1772, buried 4 Dec 1837, St Lukes, Chelsea

Ann Whitchorn buried 1787 St Anne, Soho

Thomas Robert Whitchorn bap 11 Nov 1810, St Katherine Coleman to parent Thomas and Elizabeth. Thomas Robert marred Eliza Louisa Sharratt on 20 June 1836, St Lukes.

Can you help with any of these names? Any information which might help to link them would be a real help.

Other Countries / Latour / Lantour / Lautour of Calcutta, India
« on: Sunday 24 October 10 12:10 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to put together a picture of the Latour family in Calcutta.

It proving difficult as what records there are show different spellings of the surname including Latour, Lautour, Lantour, Lattore etc even Hantour.

In my tree I have:

Louis Latour
b 1799, m Catherine Smith on Sept 1822 at John Cathederal, Calcutta, d 1833

Christiana Agnes Latour (daughter of Louis and Catherine)
b 1825, m John Milne on 27 Nov 1846, d 1909

Lydia A Latour (daughter of Louis and Catherine)
b 1827, d 1833

Also in Calcutta at the same time there are:

Simon Pierre Latour who marries Jeanette A Guillo in 1826
Sophia Elizabeth Latour who marries William Bernard Carbery in 1831 (Fort William)
Jane Matilda Latour who marries Ernest Dawes Reilly Amman in 1836
Marie Louisa Latour who marries John Herberlet in 1827
Claudine Rose latour who marries Jean Lester
Edward De Lautour who marries Catherine Sconce

Can anyone connect any of these individuals together for me.

Also would like to find out more about Catherine Smith. Her father is Samuel Smith. I'm wondering if he is anything to do with Samuel Smith & Co of Hare Street, Calcutta, which published many newspapers, magazines and periodicals in Calcutta. I'm only guessing as Louis Latour (married to Catherine Smith) is described as a 'writer' on his death in 1833.

Any help would be fantastic
