Hi Gylmor - It appears that we have the same family here. My wife (nee Carlye) descends from George Scott Carlyle b 1832. It has been a long hard job but we have found a lot of info on him and have made a fairly good timeline for him.

We would like to hear from you to compare what we have on George and his sister Dorothy.
I did try to contact you yesterday privately but I don't think that message was delivered. You can contact me on - *

Kindest regards, Evan and Heather.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: Anne Webster - born 1765 - Wellow

Hi - It appears that you may have the correct line here.
Do you have the Marriage cert for William and Ann?

Your William was born on 31/08/1746 and his sister, Elizabeth born 27/02/1742
You mention she named her siblings, do you have their names? I have found five in total.
William and Ann had nine children, the eldest being John Webster Wombell b 14/08/1784 and the youngest was Elizabeth b 15/05/1803 which makes her father William 57 at her birth.

Hopefully marriage info may tell you the age of William and Ann at marriage although info from that time may not be given

I hope this helps - popkiwi.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: Sheasby

Hi Debs - Thanks for your info. What I can add is as follows -

I had Sarah Sheasby, but not her spouse, so that was good news for me.
Sarah was born 09/01/1814 in Long Itchington, which matches her spouse exactly.
Sarah had three siblings, John b 04/10/1807, an ag lab. In 1851 John was living with his parents in The Cottage, Bascote and reamined single until he died aged 57 on 02/06/1867 in Bascote, Southam, Warwickshire.
George Sheasby, ag lab born 1815 in Long Itchington. George is from whom I descend. He married Sophia Clowse in 1833 and died in 1895. I have more info on them and their six children.
Ann Sheasby was born 02/02/1917 in Long Itchington.
I also have Sarah's parents, Samuel and Mary.

I have too much info to put on here so if you are interested please contact me via email - (*) - and I can let you know much more.

I look forward to hearing from you and maybe getting some more info off you, regards - Evan Bennett, Australia.

Hi - I have just received your message and what you have sounds promising.

As yet I don't have a spouse for Sarah but I do have her three siblings, all born in Long Itchington.

My branch of the Sheasby family came from Warwickshire and immigrated to New Zealand (1874) where I was born. I have a record of the passenger list. I now live in Australia.

If you do find that we are connected then I have quite a lot of info and photos that would be of interest to you.

I have gone back as far as Samuel Sheasby born in 1774.

I look forward to your reply when you arrive back from holiday.

Regards, Evan Bennett.

Good morning - As we suspect that George Carlyle b 1832 is our man, and that he was born in Dornoch Dumfries - how do I get a birth cert to prove it?

I am fairly certain that he is our man. - Evan

Following is all info I have on George Carlyle -

Left Melbourne on 23/01/1863 on the 'Saint Clair' arriving in Port Chalmers, Otago, NZ.
1867-1869, lived in Naesby-Manuherikia District electoral role.
1870 - livedin Naesby, Mount Ida electorate
1871-1873, lived in Kyeburn, Mount Ida eletorate.
1874 - lived in Maerewhenua, Mount Ida electorate.

So, he arrived in NZ 1863. Son George jnr was born in Geraldine in 1864, therefore it is possible Geo snr married Eliza Smith in Australia. There is no record of their marriage in NZ.

The last record of him is the 1874 electorate record. No death cert found. So maybe he left Eliza and went back to Aust or Scotland. Eliza had to stay in NZ to bring up Geo jnr.

It's trying to match up Geo snr to where he was born in Scotland that we are after, I think the posting by Gadget was looking very good.

George snr sailed from Melbourne to Otago, NZ, on the Saint Clair in Jan 1863 but I cannot find that ship anywhere.

George jnr had my wifes father and two other siblings, all have died and left no info.
We think George snr was in Aust for a while, on George jnr birth cert, father was a STOCKMAN, which is an Aussie expression.
I have tried to find passenger lists for him arriving in Aust a while ago, but no success - really, I don't know how to do it.

Gadget/Ruskie - This is my wifes family and it is very confusing.

We don't have any info on George b 1832 apart from  his wife, Eliza Smith and their son George Carlyle jnr, b 1864..

Their is no death cert or marriage cert to be found in NZ, so we tend to think he never actually married and he may have gone back to either Scotland or Australia.
We have his entry into NZ via Melbourne, Aust. So we need to find a passenger list from Scotland to Aust between 1832 and 1864. I don't know if they travelled directly from Scotland or had to leave from Liverpool or London.
