Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Slightly OT - Video clean up?

Has anyone tried to clean up video?

I have some Super 8 Cine footage from the mid 70's. Its been transferred to VHS. The original Cine footage was rather scratched, and hence the transfer is scratched aswell.

I have now copied from the VHS to .avi files ready for editing, trimming and creating a dvd from, but Im wondering if there is any way to clean up the footage before hand? I had considered trying to clean each frame in photo editing, but with the length of the footage it would take a couple of years.

Has anyone tried anything like this before? Is there any software that can be suggested for a task like this?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Paul,

The death was registered of a 68 yo Elizabeth Macdonald in Brighton, in 1959, vol 5h, page 81, July-Aug-Sep quarter.  That seems to be the nearest to what you were/are looking for.

Thank you so much for this information. It will hopefully tie up a few loose ends. Can I ask where you found this, its something I have been searching for for quite a while.

Thanks again for the find and bringing it here.

Paul

hello, can i ask what your fathers name was.

i am looking up my family tree.

so far i have Macdonald Married Grinyer, they had 4 children, one was called Andrew Macdonald born 1920 he married a woman called Mary Winifred Cecile Macdonald formerly Gagnon. they second is Grace E. Macdonald born 1921, the third is John Macdonald born 1922 and the forth is Horace J. Macdonald born 1929. Andrew Macdonald and Mary went on to have 3 children first Andrew Macdonald born 1944, second Ian Macdonald born 1950 died 1985, Ian is my father. and the third child Is Robin Macdonald born 1953.

Hi Lloyd1985
My father was Robin Macdonald. He passed away in 1988. This family connection makes us cousins. In total Mary (who goes by the name Cecile) and Andrew had 8 children, 4 of whom I believe are still alive. I have so much information that I can forward to you regarding the Gagnon line, as its been traced back to 16th (I think) Century France. We are actually related to Celine Dion, Madonna and Hilary Clinton, something like 10th cousins.

The Macdonald family is now spread across the world with members living in Australia and Mid-West and West Coast USA.

Im sending you my personal email address by private message so that we can transfer more information etc.

By the way my name is Paul.

So glad that you joined Rootschat and got in touch. Hope to hear from you soon.

Paul

Right, had a little bit of feedback on this one, but only a little.

A grandson of Elizabeth believes she died in 1958, Im assuming in the sussex area. Free BMD shows nothing at all, Im assuming it hasnt been transcribed yet.

Ancestry shows 3 Elizabeth Macdonalds for 1958 in the Sussex area, but as I dont have a subscription for them I dont have any other details.

Going to see what other information I can get over the next week or so.

Thanks Monica

That 2nd family that you found is one I found in my research aswell. That is the family that are the basis for the odd marriage ages. The problem is that until I can definitively link them to the 1920 birth of my grandfather there is no guarantee that they are the Grinyer family I am looking for.
