A Merchant Seamans’ record on FindMyPast shows Charles Walters (born 1889 London) officially changed his name back to John Joseph George Thomas on 1 May 1940.  As proof he produced his birth cert dated 25 March 1886 London.   The record also states he “died in local hospital” on (looks like) 20 July 1940.

BIRTH: John Joseph G THOMAS Poplar, London 2Q Vol: 1C Page: 618, mmn KITTS

There is a John J G Thomas, single, with corresponding birth date recorded at Chertsey Surrey in 1939 working in an Airline Factory.

How did he get to Argentina, I wonder

St Mary’s churchyard has been surveyed by the Montgomery Genealogical Society but there is no headstone recorded for Edward or Susannah Humphreys.  Are there any other family members who might be interred there?

Hi Isobel,

Your John William Lee, mmn MORAN was born 3Q 1882.  Searching 1939 brings up just one born Jul-Aug-Sep; 13 Sep 1882.  Does this match the certificate you have?

The Welsh newspapers online show a William Scamp in Newport 1838, later Samuel and Nelson Williams.  There are more entries – search for each name enclosed by inverted commas.

“Several of the village’s finest houses are on Church Road. At the village end of the road are listed terrace houses, some with attractive latticed porches, while further up are grander early 19th century houses built by James Rose, who established Woolton Quarry and was known as ‘the King of Woolton’. These include his own house, Beechwood, and Rosemount, built for his mother.”
