I noticed the couple you mention whist checking your original post, so I guess this William was also born somewhat earlier. They had a number of children in Cairnie.

I note a tree on Ancestry which states William was born 1761 and Elizabeth 1765 married 1766, clearly impossible but they have added another marriage in 1781, not factual of course.

It might be worth considering what lead to that particular William & Elizabeth.
