Thanks v much Carole.  I have Eleanor's marriage certificate, but not her parents - so that's great.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / GRO Birth Records

My great grandmother Eleanor Smith was born 20 August 1884 in Bradford West Yorkshire.   The dob was gleened from the 1939 Register.  I have obtained a copy of her marriage certificate and her death in 1945 seems to be registered.  Her father's name was George Smith. Her mother's name was Elizabeth Smith nee Kitson.

However, I can't find any evidence of her birth having been registered. A search of the GRO list comes up with nothing. Please can anyone advise me of why this should be?

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Everard Family

I have traced back and verified records as far as my gt gt gt grandfather George Everard born abt 1839 in Hartley Westpall.

However, once I reach the 1851 census things get confusing;  A George Everard of abt the same birth date and place appears on two separate census's for 1851 with two different families. one is with parents called Joseph and Ann the other with parents called George and Mary Ann.

I am not sure where I can go from here.  I would be grateful if anyonce could offer any pointers please.

yes that's right I can get in by clicking on the link sent to me in my welcome e mail without actually signing in.

However, if I type my sign in details in the sign in page on the website it won't accept them.

I registered but can't sign in.
My details are definitely correct as they are confirmed in RootsChat.com welcome e mai but the site won't accept me.
I have to keep going in via the link in the welcome e mail sent to me which is a bit inconvenient.
ShallI just re register and see what happens?
