« on: Saturday 11 June 11 03:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi Scratchandfamily,

I am also decended from John and Mary Keyworth.  Some kind Rootschaters found some information for me on this thread (although I'm not sure if there's anything there you dont already have):

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,110622.0.html

I recently found some more information on my Beckingham ancestors on the following site although I havent attempted to see what's there for the Keyworths yet:

http://www.red1st.com/

The ask for a small donation if you want to join this site although you can do some searching without joining.

Best of luck!

Hi Sinclairclub and welcome to Rootschat.

Since I first posted on this subject in 2005, I have found out that my missing relatives were actually in France rather than Ireland!  I'm sure the link will be useful to other Rootschatters with ancestors from the Emerald Isle.

Croscombe is also about 30 miles from Fivehead and only about 5 miles from Gurney Slade.

I think the first one is probably Gurney Slade which is about 30 miles from Fivehead.

Hi Kathleen,

This is what I've been able to find from the scottish records:

Your grandfather William Jaffray CRIGHTON married Eliza COOK, in the St. Andrews District of Dundee in 1915.

William Jaffray CRIGHTON was born on April 6th 1895 also in the St. Andrews District of Dundee.  His parents were William CRIGHTON (born 25th Sept 1865) and Catherine (Nee DOWNS).

Willam CRIGHTON's parents (W. J. CRIGHTON's paternal grandparents) were David CRICHTON (I have these same CRIGHTON/CRICHTON spelling changes in the records for my ancestors!) and Elizabeth (nee FRAZER) and they were married in Dundee in 1864.

David CRICHTON's parents were William and Helen (nee GIBSON).  Helen was deceased by the time David married in 1864.

That's as far as I've been able to go back and I haven't been able to find a link with my ancestors but I'll keep looking.  It looks like if we are related, the link is even further back than your ggg grandfather!

Regards,

Al

Europe Resources & Offers / French BMD Records, Nord Departement 1802 - 1892

This may be a bit of an obscure one to most people but if you happen to have ancestors who came from this area of France which includes Dunkirk & Lille then it may be of help.

The alphabetical indexes cover periods of 10 years and are specific to each town or commune (there is no national index to the French records) so you have to know more or less where your ancestors lived.

You don't actually need to know much french to navigate around the site but I'll be happy to provide some pointers if anyone needs any help.

The same site also has the 1906 census for the same area but there is no index so you'd have to have a lot of time on your hands if you wanted to find someone!

The link is:

http://www.archivesdepartementales.cg59.fr

and you then need to click on "Consulter les archives en ligne"

Bonne Chance!

Hi Kathleen,

Sorry for not replying sooner, I haven't been on Rootschat for a while.  Do you have any dates (Birth, Marriage) for your grandfather?  As you'll see from this thread, my ancestors left Dundee around 1866 so if we are related, the link would probably be a couple of generations further back from your grandfather.

Let me know what information you have and I'll see what I can find.

Regards,

Al

ps I made a breakthrough this week on locating my ancestors in France!  The 10 year BMD indexes for the North of France have just become available on line and I managed to find the birth records for two of my G Grandmother's brothers.  These indexes are for a specific town so I'm owrking my way out from Dunkirk town by town to see what else I can find.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Missing street number
« on: Thursday 10 January 08 23:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Cynfran,

This Post Office directories of Bath for the period (www.historicaldirectories.org) only show the numbers on Railway Street going up to number 9.  Have you tried looking up the name in these directories?  Maybe there was a mistake in the address on the postcard and it should have been 7 Railway Street or 17 Railway Road?

Al

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage look-up please
« on: Thursday 10 January 08 23:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Nooshie,

There are four names on page 608 of volume 2c of the marriage index for October 1908 and based on this, Arthur Burnett FLATMAN could have married either Daisy May NEAL or Lucy Ellen S SLADE.

I had a look at the FreeBMD birth index for FLATMANs born in Newbury after 1908 but I found nothing.  Looking up the surname of the other man on the page (Albert John GORE), I found a series of births for GORE from Newbury including Albert born 1909 and the 3 registered after 1911 (when the mother's maiden name first appeared in the index) have the mother's maiden name as SLADE.

By a process of elimination, I think it's likely that Arthur Burnett FLATMAN married Daisy May NEAL.

Regards,

Al
