Thanks, no I can't find anything for either of them, maybe the family legend isn't true & they just separated.

Thomas Charles Martin & Eliza Martin nee Lee, they're in the 1901 & 1911 census living apart, in 1911 Thomas says he's a widower ( wishful thinking maybe ) but Eliza is still calling herself Martin.  We know there was a divorce but just not sure when.  It's poss that Eliza says she's still married to save face in public.  Which ever way you look at it, Thomas died in 1921.

Does anyone know if divorces are searchable on the internet in England yet?  I have someone who divorced in the early 1900s but wanted to know just when.

Hello all who have helped me with this query,
I have since found them on the 1841 census, thankyou.  I still know very little about my Grace Harrison, the unknown child was Mary Ann but she seems to have disappeared after this, no death can be found so maybe she was adopted out.  Grace had a son, John in 1846 ( also while unmarried ) & yes she is living with her brother William & his family in 1851.  On John's birth cert it gives Grace's place of residence as Lewisham workhouse but John was born at William's house in Sydenham.  I cannot find Grace after this date.
Grace's mother Maria died (perhaps of exhaustion) & her father remarried a woman 32 years younger than him & in total, that I can find, William had 17 children, he died age 83.

Thanks once again,
Meredith ;D

Hi, I know this may be an old question but can someone tell me what time of the year was the 1881 census taken as I have someone who died in March but is on the census, I was told the census was taken in April so you can see my dilemma.
Thanks
