all valid points and fair advice thanks Annie...his children were all born in Australia and that's where he is 'flexible' with his ages at their births...his marriage cert gives his age (27) and his birthplace and parents names as I have said before...but as his children arrive his ages at the time of their births don't gell with what he gave at his 1873 marriage and its obvious that he is not telling his correct age. His death cert informant is most likely the most reliable of all the certs because its his wife (and not him lol :) so that's why I was looking for any indication of Findley's in the Forfarshire area. A long shot at best .

Thanks all..new info learned just yesterday suggests that Robert Findley's birth year was 1840...not 1845-47 as was first thought..this comes from a relative with his death certificate. But in reality what I am looking for is any sign that the Findley's actually did come from Forfarshire as shown on Robert's marriage certificate because he seems to have been prone to a certain laxity of truth :)...as to his parents marriage or the birth of any siblings ect..that would be a bonus. I looked at a 1841 census that shows a 1 year old Robert Findley with parents James and Jean..I have Roberts parents and Jane and Robert snr..I guess the names  Jean and Jane are interchangeable but the fathers names of James and Robert not so much. :)

you're right Sue...Ellen was only 17 when she married Donald Carlo, a man 30 years her senior, and so perhaps not what she expected...I know that George Foster lived in a nearby street to her while she was in the Buxton relationship though...and young Ada Buxton was always known as Bonnie Foster almost from the start....we can't look back at those days from today's perspective and make critical judgements...they were different times. But oh my, isn't it fascinating  :D

Thanks Sue, I had not seen either of the Trove articles nor the headstone and am most grateful for your efforts. Rosina was obviously getting an education at the age of 13 but was a little old to be 'in the 4th grade' at that age, unless the system was somewhat different back then.
Again many thanks.

Thank you all.......the information I have is from a distant family member , most of what I have received fro you all ties in with what I have been told...Eleanor muddied the waters a lot by using lots of names Helen, Ellen, Nellie, etc as well as Buxton, Carlo. Findley....add to that her 'partner/husband names of Donald and James...she once said one of her daughters fathers was Robert Carlo...Robert was actually her own fathers name.
It is a belief in our family that she bigamously married George Foster before her 1st husband, Donald Carlo,  had died and also prior to her defacto James Buxton's demise....It was a surprise to see her mentioned in Hannah's wedding notice though because it was always believed that Hannah knew nothing of her parents and was raised by a foster family.

Just a further thought Bev, any of the family information that you would care to swap/share with me on the extended family history may be best shared by  PM (personal message) that is available on this site.
Cheers

Thanks Ros..yes all of that information does pertain to Eleanor's mother...the Mrs Gribble is her sister and of course she is Mrs Foster.....I have all this already but I don't have the probate packet for Elizabeth Gribble so I really appreciate your offer of a pic of it.
Eleanor Foster's desertion of her 3 older girls is a mystery to me, especially the 2 eldest...why?...and where did she leave them ?...I only have scant info on the 3rd child Hannah , who was 'fostered' with a family named Seber, and who apparently had a miserable childhood, but nothing at all on the older 2.

Thanks Bev..it may be worthwhile to get the death cert but I don't suppose it will tell me much about Rosina or Florence as it appears that they were not his children and that Eleanor had long since departed,
