Hi Ian, Sorry for late response, unfortunately work got in the way :)
I thank you for trying to help, it seems with my gr gr grandfather I think I am getting somewhere and then continue to hit brick walls, it seems around that time in NYC there are possibly a few whilemenia that keep popping up.

All this Norway link started when DNA came back for my mum having 22% Norwegian and a link I found was Irene Jacobs born in NY who is 2-4th cousin of my mum..... At times I have to remember that all this time and work is just to find a birth record for her grandfather Alexander born in Banff, Scotland in 1869. - the amount of times I have gone back to basics then ended up going round in circles - very frustrating all in the name of a Hobbie!!
Thank you again for all your help, I wont give up and one day I hope I have the answers.

Ian thank you I really appreciate it.
I think you may have something that I hadn't seen, I have Willemina marrying James Edward Jacobs in 1877 , however looking at my tree, I have not been able to find this marriage so at some point she must have moved to NY and married a Jocobs but not the one Ive been looking at, I your information tree on ancestry and see what I can find out from that, and fingers crossed.....

So am I right in thinking that Whilelmina b 1856 was the daughter of Axel Vilhelmsen and Sille Olsdatter, and Whilemina 1856 married Ole Larsen in 1876 in Stavanger, they moved to New York after this date and then she gave birth to Serine in Norwegian Seamen's Mission 1887?
Can you take a look at this on ancestry, are you able to translate for me, is it the parents that were born in Stavanger?  it looks as I can see that the child is Valerie C Larson born 1896 - would this be right?

Hi, yes there are a few records on ancestry with different surnames, I am working on the one based on her death certificate with her parents names on.  This is mainly due to the surname possibly matching my gr grandfathers Williams (sen) and hoping this is the connection.
I think just maybe she could be a 1/2 sibling to my gr gransfather but have not records to confirm this.  I don't like taking details from other tree unless I have the records to back it up.

I dont think this is the Wilhemina I am looking for as I have records of her marriage in 1877 in New York to James E Jacobs , thats a shame.  On her detah record she is Wilhelmina E Jacobs.
I have her death record in 1912 (aged 56 years)  New York as being in the US for 40 years, Born Norway and her parents as Oksel Welhelsem and Selles Welhelsem.
Thank you for looking into this for me I really appreciate it

Thank you Ian I really appreciate that, I will explore further.
I am hoping for somewhere along the line my Gr Gr Grandfather to be connected, however I have him being born in Banff Scotland in 1869, and have tried for years to find a birth for him without success.
I did DNA and Wilhemina came up as a connected to my mum's DNA as 2-4th Cousin, and my mums DNA is 30% Norway, so trying to figure out where the connection is.  I have tried for years with all different spellings of Williams etc but neve had the Norway connection before.
Just need to find Vilhelmine going to New York in 1878 ish and then see what that brings.
Thanks so much for your help.
Lisa

Hi, I have been researching my family tree for a number of years but never had any connection to Norway until now, so hoping someone could give me a few pointers in terms of the best sites to visit.  I have a DNA connected with Wilhelmina born Norway in approx 1856 and moved to New York when young and married James E Jacobs. I am particularly looking to gain information on Wilhelmina, I have a couple of surname of Wilhelmsen or Rasmussen, but definitely her parents as Oksel Welhelsem and Selles Kuntsaur both born Norway but not sure how to go about finding the records for them as dont have birth dates or area they are from.
Could anyone give me pointers of research tools?

Hi Leslie
John William Harbron Gallagher is my Great Grandfather, most of the information on ancestry is probably from my original tree as I have this as public.  I have lots of photos and information if you need them help yourself.  If you want to send me your email address I can give you access to the tree Gallagher Tree.

Kind regards
Lisa
