Thanks for your reply Geoff,

I knew about my 3X Gt. Grandfather James Jordan b1808 (son of Elizabeth Jordan) who married Frances Ford, b. 1808 in Harefield Middx.  Having learnt that Frances Ford was born in Rickmansworth and about her parents, I was hoping that 'someone' out there might have researched the Ford family and would be able to help in tracing back further that family.  Also of course, I have a problem with my illegitimate 3 X Gt Grandfather James Jordan and hid paternal family links - this is something of course that might never get solved.  There are no parish records in existence for either Sarratt or Chipperfield that might have held a clue unfortunately.

Also in Chipperfield where this James Jordan spent most if not all his life, there was another Jordan family living that you mentioned, James Jordan son of John Jordan & Rebecca (Kentish), mis-spelt as 'Jordain'.  These two families lived just yards apart at one time - but unfortunately I cannot establish a link between them.  In those days there were only around 300 or so people living in Chipperfield so this makes it all the more frustrating!

Thanks for your help, at least I have got a bit further back with my Ford ancestors.

Regards,  Averill. :)

Hertfordshire / Ford family in Herfordshire

Searching on the internet I came across an item Jenny's Family History.  The information it included was of some Ford family members that included Frances Ford b. 1808 who married my 3X Gt. Grandfather James Jordan b. 1808.  They married 3 Jan 1830 in Harefield, Middx.

Included in Jenny's information was her e-mail address (*)  replying to this address I got a reply telling me it was undeliverable.  Can anyone help me in this matter.  Either tracing Jenny or with information regarding the Ford family in Hertfordshire.

Regards,  Averill.

Thanks for the information CaroleW

Something for me to chew over!  Just have to try and dig a little deeper regarding this Elizabeth.

There were twin daughters born to Ephraim & Mercy (Saunders) Jordan, Elizabeth & Ann Jordan b. 1790 Kings Langley, into which came Chipperfield.  Now I have also found a burial for 'a Elizabeth Jordan' infant 1790 in Kings Langley!  Who is this?  Why can't family history be simple I say.

Hello Carole,
Thanks for this, but due you know anything about the Elizabeth Jordan that Daniel married?
Or do you know of a 'Yvette' who I think lives in Holland / Belgium who has Daniel in her family line?  I have lost Yvette's e-mail address so I cannot seek any more info from her.

My interest in Elizabeth Jordan's of this period is that a Elizabeth Jordan gave birth to my 3 X Gt. grandfather James Jordan b. 1808 and baptised in Sarratt in June that year.  Not to be confused with another James Jordan bapt. April 1808 in Sarratt, son of John Jordan.

Such are the perils of searching for your ancestors!

Thank you, Annette & Maddie for your replies.

I must admit that I am not 100% sure that I can connect my James Jordan b. 1808 & baptised at Sarratt to a particular Elizabeth Jordan, only by a process of elimination.  The other James Jordan born the same year and also baptised at Sarratt, whose parents as you state are John Jordan & Rebecca (nee Kentish) as given on this James baptism record, whereas my James Jordan has only his mother Elizabeth Jordan recorded.  Just to confuse matters, the other James Jordan also lived in Chipperfield & ran the buthcher's shop there.

I did think that Elizabeth Jordan b.1790, daughter of Ephraim & Mercy Jordan could have been 'my' James Jordan's mother, but cannot find (so far) any evidence to support this fact.  This Elizabeth Jordan had a twin sister Ann and I have not found any further records for either of these two girls, regarding marriage or deaths!  They both had two older sisters, Sarah b.1782 & Fanny b. 1786 and an older brother - also Ephraim b.1780 and a younger sister Charlotte b. 1792.

I have researched as many Jordan families as I could find in the Sarratt / Chipperfield / Kings Langley areas to try and link together a of larger Jordan family group without too much luck so far, just several 'isolated' families.

Just to make life difficult, checking at Herts. Records Office, it would appear that no parish records have survived for Kings Langley that cover the period of interest that might have given me a clue or two.

My 3X great grandfather James Jordan b.1808 married first Fanny (Frances Ford) their marriage record does not give details of either of their fathers.  When James re-married following the death of Frances, he gave the name of his father as 'Richard Jordan' this I think was to cover his illegitimacy.  No trace of this Richard Jordan can be found!

I have traced my Jordan acestors to my earliest relative.  He was James Jordan b. 1808 & baptised at Sarratt, Herts.  His mother is given as Elizabeth Jordan.
There are several 'Jordan' families in the Chipperfield / Kings Langley areas but haven't been able to make connection with any of these.
Here the search has gone 'cold'.  Any help would be gratefully received.
