The Common Room / Re: kendrick family

Hi there,
Old post or not there is no problem making contact.
Just to get our relationship in order.
Your grandfather Alfred George was my fathers brother. William Samuel B 1915, D1993
Also I am really short of information on you grandfather, wives (Think he was married twice but could be wrong) children?

As for going the other way the parents of James Kendrick (1840-1916) I have him as Joseph Kendrick but birth and death dates are flaky. B 1801? - and D after 1864?. The only reason I have for Joseph to be alive after 1864 is that the marriage certificate of his son (James) does not say deceased. It's also possible he died in 1842?
Do not know if you are looking for the maternal side of James but his mother was Elizabeth Scott, possible B 1805, possible D 1849.
I have the parish record for Joseph and Elizabeth marriage on 6th May 1821.
I go back no further than that for Joseph but have some shaky information for Elizabeth.

Hope that helps a little and get back if you need more or send me information on my above query if you have it.

Best wishes

According to the 1911 census Catherine was a widow.

My aunt said Thomas came to the UK from Australia, either married there or here or never got married at all, did not like it here and returned to Australia with his two sons.

Two issues here:-

       1. I didn't know he had two sons. No hint of them on any papertrail.
       2. For them to have married in Australia, pennyless Irish girl had to go there first to marry him.

I do get the feeling my Aunt has fed me a red herring, but I guess I have to check.

Hi Heywood,

I have just been talking to my Aunt who is the granddaughter of Thomas Spofforth, and my deceased mothers sister.

She said that Thomas was Australian, which is nothing like my current research shows.

Looks like I have to go back to square one and check out the Australian angle.

By the way Maud Spofforth was the twin sister of Winifred so well spotted by you.

Winifred Spofforth#s birth cert. shows Thomas as a Ship's Fireman

Hi Heywood,

Thanks for your comeback.   :)

I have everything after Thomas and Catherine, and winifred is my grandmother.
At the moment I am trying to go the other way, backwards.
I have Thomas Spofforth birth and Catherine Spofforth (nee Mcgann) death.
I also have Thomas Spofforth parents from his birth certificate.
I am trying to get their marriage certificate to determind Catherine's father, but this has proved very elusive so far. Maybe they didn't actually get married.

Maud is interesting and will investigate with living relatives.

Thanks again

Ireland / Spofforth - Mcgann Marriage
« on: Monday 13 February 12 09:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I have tried on the England board for the marriage of Thomas Joseph Spofforth born in Liverpool 1865 to Catherine Theresa Mcgann born in Co. Cork about 1865. Thomas was a seaman so they might not have met or married in the UK.

Are there any Ireland board chatters who might be able to help with this pairing.

Hi Trish,

I have not tried the Irish board yet, I guess that's my next move.
Thanks for your help.

You don't have to change the photograph, it's a snapshot in time, and they look GRAND.

I think you have hit the same wall as I have.

I did wonder if the 'Thomas death' aged 1 was an official mistake all those years ago, but did not want to spend the money to find out.

Enjoy the Grand Twiglets.

Best wishes
