Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: Look up Caddy please
« on: Sunday 13 August 06 06:13 BST (UK)  »
By the way, I've had a quick look through the census in Cornwall and there is a possible trace for Mary Ann Hodge.  Her parents are Roger (a Master Mariner) and Jane - although this isn't definitely the right person, Mary Ann and Thomas's marriage certificate would prove it.

Sorry - the IGIs are the International Genealogical Index which are posted on the LDS website.  We were both looking at the same website, just in different places.

There's a reference in the IGIs to a Thomas Bickle Caddy born c1844 in Cornwall.  He married Mary Ann Hodge (born 2 Dec 1838, Roselydden, Cornwall) in 1868.

Hope this helps.

The Common Room / Re: MARRIAGE BONDS/ALLEGATION ?

In my case, the only person confirming the bond was the groom.  However it did give his occupation which at least confirmed that I had the right person.

The Common Room / Marriage Certificate v Parish Record
« on: Tuesday 20 June 06 16:20 BST (UK)  »
I have a marriage certificate where I am 99% sure the bride's father's name is wrong.  The name is the same on the marriage certificates I obtained from the General Register Office and local Register Office.  Is there any point in my trying to find the Parish Record for marriage, or is the information going to be identical.  Is one drawn up from the information on the other, or are the marriage certificate and the parish record created independently?

Hope this makes sense...

Thanks for the help.  I've now received a copy of the marriage bond from Lambeth Palace Library.  The bond was for £200 which is quite a sum of money for 1770.  One thing I've noticed is that the allegation and bond were both issued on the day that the marriage took place.  Is that what normally happened - or could they have been in a bit of a hurry  :-\ ?

I'm a bit confused by allegations and bonds.  I've managed to obtain a marriage allegation for a licence which was issued  by the Faculty Office in 1770 (the marriage took place the same day!).  Where should I look to see if there is a copy of the bond (if there was one)?

I've found John T Pagan in Rochdale in the 1851 census.
His father is Robert, born c1793 in Scotland, a retired Flannel Manufacturer.  His mother is Sarah, born c1795 in Rochdale.

There's also a christening in the IGIs for a Robert Pagan, 26 August 1792 Keir, Dumfries - parents John Pagan and Isabel Thompson (the extra 'p' could be a mistake).

Europe / Re: Naturalisation, Internment: Immigrant Information at KEW:

I've got a query regarding the National Archives website.  I'm trying to find out more about Charles Nicolas D'Aubusson de la Feuillade who came to London from France sometime between 1753 and 1783.  I've done an online search and there's no trace - does this mean that he definitely didn't adopt UK nationality and I should stop looking?

Many thanks,

Nick
