Hello Marlene.

Thanks for your post.
It seems we have the same connections, with a few details to iron out.
I would be very happy to talk further with you, to discuss further.
Thanks again.

hi Foxgraven  I am also trying to find Martin rattigan from Ireland. My late Husbands greatgrandfather who was married to Winifred, but I keep getting contradictions my husbands grandfather was Michael Joseph he had a brother called Martin and everything matches your great grandfather except Martin was married to Mary Stead 27th of June 1908 and both Michael and Martin were married from the same address Idid find 2 Rattigans on the 1871 census Martin age 21 and a John age 29 and they were boarders so was that about the time he came over from ireland, were they brotherts or cousins? Ialso found A John who was married to Ellen Kelly and the childrens names of both are very similar but dates dont match. and John had a son named Patrick who died at the somme and his wife lived in the same street in Huddersfield that my Husbands Grandfather lived so were they related? I am going to write to the church were martin was married.and also to a man in roscommon whose family haved livedthere for a few generations  if I get anywhere I will let you know   good luck Marlene

My Grandad was a cook in the Army during WWII.

But he was still combat trained and part of the regular fighting unit of The Dukes (West Riding).

Hello everybody.

Are any of you good people able to access war records?
And if so, could you please help?
I'm looking for records on the following 3 people, Great-Grandfathers of mine.
If possible, actual hard copies.
Many thanks.

Harold Foster. 25665 Gunner, of the 175th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.

John William Hirst. 3118 Private, of the 5th West Riding.

Martin Rattigan. 9184 Lance Corporal, of 1st West Riding.

All additional help/info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and best regards.

Foz.

Its looking likely that i'll be going down the route of Hannah's family for the lineage now.

So, Her father was James Foster b.1788.

Does anybody have the means to confirm his father?

I've got a Nathaniel Foster, but no age/d.o.b/spouse details.

Can any of you access that info and share?

Many thanks.

Really?

I wasn't aware of that. Was that the CSA of its day?

It could open all kinds of avenues as to why the father was unknown.
Was Hannah a servant to a wealthy house? Was she paid to keep quiet?
Was she sexually assaulted? Was it an affair?

It could be any number of reasons.
But i will look into your suggestion on that.

Thank you for helping.
