World War Two / Force 281 Dodecanese 1945
« on: Thursday 14 September 23 23:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone enlighten me?
After serving in the ME from Jan 1943  my grandfather was TOS to Force 281 HQ in Apr 45 until Sept 45.
What exactly was force 281 and what duties would they have done?
His records show him moving around some if the Greek Islands.
I remember him talking about large POW camps, and driving German VW cars and trucks.but not sure when this was. Could this have been what he talked about?

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Gloucestershire Regiment Surname Lookup REEVES
« on: Monday 12 April 21 09:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for a list of all soldiers who fought with the Gloucestershire Regiment with the surname of Reeves.

I know the Regimental Museum website used to have a 'find a soldier' option in the past but this seems to have disappeared.

I already know of several of my ancestors who fought, and some died with the Gloucester's.

I am trying to see if I have any others that I have missed.

Any help gratefully appreciated

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Stroud Workhouse 1841 to 1848
« on: Wednesday 11 November 20 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Does anybody have knowledge of records available for this period?

I have an ancestor who appears on 1841 census living with his son, but dies in 1848 in Stroud Workhouse. of Deceptitude (exhaustion).

Any records indicating when he went in to the workhouse  would be wonderful.

Many thanks for reading

Colin

Hi

Firstly thank you..
I have dropped off my research somewhat, so hence the reason for not following up your information earlier.

I have just contact the first of your references, and wait to see if any helpful info follows.

Once again thank you

Best wishes
Colin

Hi

Sorry its been so long.

I have finally got a copy of death certificate for Raymond.
His place of death in 1937 was Siddington, but I see no burial in Siddington for him on FindMyPast.
Also cannot find any possible burial in Tetbury area.

The couple were living with Raymond's brother Walter.
Charlotte is still living at the same address in Siddington on 1939 register.

Maybe he was cremated.
Are there any records available for cremations in Gloucestershire

Thanks
Colin

Australia / Re: Help requested... Giles Rowland arrived 30 May 1857
« on: Monday 27 April 20 15:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi

After a long absence from my FH Research, I have comeback to my Rowland family line.

Really appreciate the help so far, and see that Giles's land was sold in 1868 a year before his death.

I am curious to know if this is evidence of any marriages or children for Giles whilst he lived in Australia.
Or indeed any information on the cause of his death.

Thank you in advance

Colin

Capetown.

I think you have cracked it..

I will pursue the line that Ellen E Reeves was raised by her Aunt and Uncle Mabel Elizabeth Reeves (Saunders) and indeed married a William H Smith in Sep 1939

THANK YOU indeed

Colin
