re polio in maidenhead i had an aunt who was stricken by the disease   she was in her mid thirties she was hospitalised in st marks  isolation unit  [ was only 8  so Was not aware ofhow deadly thert disease was   she was in iron  lung for a  no oF days  when she was sent home she needed a caliper to be able to walk and
her leftarm was paralysed she bore this with cheerfulness and courage until her death at
 96 yrs of age

it may be of interest  a monument to the pikemen of 96 stands on the road into wexford town at a place called barntown  it is a representation of a group of pikemen but i do not know who caused it to be erected

i am interested in finding any information about a battalion of 74th iimperial yeomanry raised in Dublin and in particular an engage ment at Griquetown in s.a.   my wife's grandfather Tpr.VinentConroy was wounded during this action

my grandfather william henry newell joined the royal berkshire reg.t.a.as a private in 1908 in maidenhead  his war medals are inscribed csm at the time of demob. although the rate of attrition was high that is a big leap in rank. is there anywhere where one could tracae the how a nd where the promotion was ?      thankyou graham

hi again  just in case you might find it useful the Cof I churh in cahir is st pauls the rev.barbara murray is the dean.however much of her time would be spent  in st marys in clonmel. also in the general cahir/clogheen area a no.of themore affluent were quakers    you may already have this info.if so my apologies

looking for any information re James Conroy solr clerkwho died age 69  in Cavan workhouse i have been told that in later years this doubled as a hospital  his death reg. was in 1900 . further info is that he married in Derry 1878 already a widower his only child frances vincent was born in  cashel co tipp his father john claims to have been a hotel keeper but was already deceased in i878. his wife mary eliza mcaleenan appears only for the marriage and birth of son. can anybody add anything to this please

hi esnail   the local undertakers for Cahir are Wm Costigan and sns whose range would incorporate a no. of the graveyards for the clogheen area  and as such would know a number of the relevant gravediggers.     good hunting

hi hallmark has a good point  whan we started grave huntingwe found a grave digger who probed the groundwitha metal rod to finf if there was an unnamed body within with a possitive outcom
