Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 & 1851 census look-up please
« on: Sunday 04 September 05 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi Andrea
A researcher in Norfolk has checked the Wells parish records for me & Has only found a Henry Chapman born in oct 1837, his mother is Harriet Chapman spinster.
I still cannot find his birth entry, but as records had only just started, & if he was illegitimate I don't suppose she would be in a hurry to register him. I can only find one Harriet & William Hart in the 1861 census
who are living in Norfolk, but by then my Harry Chapman Hartt is living in lodgings in Brighton. I need to find him living at home in the 1841/51 census to shed some light on this.If Henry Chapman is my grt. grt grandfather, maybe Harriet went on to marry William Hart(t).
Please could you look at the 1851 census for a Harriet Chapman , or William & Harriet Hart(t)? or any of the Henry Harts born in Norfolk who would be about 4 or 14 yrs of age.
Thanks very much for your help.
Jill

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1851 census look up please
« on: Monday 29 August 05 12:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Please can anyone lookup the 1851 census for
Clapham Surrey? I am looking for William Hart(t) born abt. 1813 Ashill Norfolk, & his wife Sarah born abt. 1819 North Lopham Norfolk.
In the 1861 census, they are living in King's Lynn Norfolk with children Edward, Emily Annette & maybe Fanny. Annette was born in 1849 in Islington Middlesex, & Fanny was born 1851/52 Clapham Surrey. I am looking for a Harry Chapman Hartt who was born abt.1837/38 in Norfolk, & is in Brighton in 1861.If he is their son, he should be living at home in the 1851 census.
Many Thanks
Jill

Hi Andrea
Thanks for that. His father was William Hartt.
I have searched on all sorts of spellings of Hartt
I have tried putting just Harry born in Wells Norfolk about 1838 give or take 5yrs, but cannot find anything.I have found the Marriage of Sophia Chapman & Thomas Hartt in Ketteringham Norfolk in 1815, & Wonder if Harry is their Grandson? It is just about possible if they had William soon after their marriage.Although William is not shown as deceased on Harry's marriage certificate in 1865, I cannot find him on the 1861 or 71 census.William's occupation is" Farmer"
I think I may only find the answer in the Well's
parish records.
Thanks again
Jill

Hi
Could anybody please help me to find my great great Grandfather, Harry Chapman Hartt?
He was born in Wells Norfolk about 1838, but I have been unable to find a birth entry for him.
In the 1861 census, he is living in Brighton, age 22yrs.(Surname has been spelt incorrectly,as Harth)As I have been unable to find him in the Norfolk census, I wonder If they moved to Brighton soon after he was born.He married in Brighton in 1865, & remained there until his death in 1893.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help.
Thanks
Jill

Hi Ray
Thanks very much for the infomation. I have found the marriage of a Thomas Hartt & Sophia Chapman in 1815 at Ketteringham Norfolk. In the 1861 census, Sophia ia shown as a 71yr old widow living in Heigham with a
visitor, Elizabeth Chapman.I know that Sophia was buried at Bawburgh, so I wonder if this William could be the brother of Thomas ?
I am hoping to find that Sophia & Thomas had a son "William" soon after their marriage & that Harry is their grandson. If the William you have found is Harry's father, he would have been 52yrs of age when he was born, which is possible, but doesn't explain the Chapman.
Are you able to see if there were any other family members on the census please? his wife's name may be of help. I think I am close, but can't quite put the pieces together.
Thanks very much.
Jill
Thanks very much

I am looking for my great great grandfather Harry Chapman Hartt. He was born approx 1838/1839 in Wells Norfolk, but I cannot find any record of his birth .In the 1861 census he is living in Brighton (surname is shown as Harth). He married Annie Wood in Brighton in 1865 & his marriage certificate shows his father’s name as William Hartt (farmer). When his son Harry Robert Hartt was born in 1869, the certificate still shows him as Harry Chapman Hartt , but in the 1881 census, he is shown as  George Harry Hartt. I am sure it is the right person , as details of his wife & son match. By the time Harry Robert married in 1893 he is deceased & is shown as Harry Chapman Cook Hartt !
Would be very grateful if anyone could help.

Norfolk / Re: Death of Walter John Thurston HARTT
« on: Thursday 11 August 05 23:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi Holly
Thanks for your msg, glad you have found what you were looking for, I think we may be related way back.As I said, I am trying to find where the" Chapman "came from in Harry Chapman Hartt, and suspect it was from a mothers maiden name. The Sophia Hartt I found in the 1861 census aged 71 & a widow, who had a visitor "Elizabeth Chapman " is  I believe the same Sophia I have found in the 1871 census, then aged 82 & a widow, who is living at " no 3 Old Palace road Portland place", & your grandfather was living at no 5.
Did you manage to find him in the 1861 census ? I found him as a 2 yr old living with his father Walter & mother Fanny & 3 sisters. I found it whilst searching for his sister Blanch May.I had come accross her marriage to a Charles Browne Hartt & Wondered how a Hartt had married a Hartt ? It seems that on marriage, he took her surname. It appears that they couldn`t make out the surname Hartt, &
I found it just by searching her first name & age. When you view original document ,it is definetly Hartt. I have notified them so it can be ammended. Let you know if I find any other connections. Thanks
