Nottinghamshire / Front Street, Arnold photos
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 20:46 GMT (UK)  »
Probably a long shot but does anyone have any old photographs of Front Street (the main high street) in Arnold they're willing to share. Especially interested in a baker's shop my great grandparents used to run around 1907-12ish.

Leicestershire / Births not registered - help
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
My great x4 grandfather, Luke Newton was born in Loughborough between 1801-1803, however there is no record of his birth anywhere. Were many births in the early C19 not registered? For what reasons would a birth not be registered? Was it illegal not to register a birth at this time?

Nottinghamshire / Look-Up please 1891 - Mary Newton
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 20:58 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks to Annette7 who helped me last time. Many thanks, Annette.

The pieces of the jigsaw are coming together - slowly!! Could someone please look-up Mary Newton (nee Pearson) on the 1891 census. She would be about 70 and a widow living in the Arnold/Basford area of Nott'm. She was born in Oxton, Nott'm in 1822. She's on the 1881 census but my hunch is that she died between the two censuses of 1881 and 1891. Any reference for her in 1891 would be fantastic.

Nottinghamshire / Look-Up Please 1851 census - Mary Pearson
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 17:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. Would someone be so kind as to look up Mary Pearson on the 1851 census. Mary was born in Oxton, Nott'm in 1822 so would have been about 30 at the time of this census.

In 1861 she was living in Arnold and was a seamer - so maybe the same in 1851. I have a hunch she's not married but with child. It would be very interesting to know who she was living with in 1851. Many thanks.

Leicestershire / 1841 census look up please - John Newton
« on: Monday 09 February 09 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please look up John Newton on the 1841 census. From a previous look-up, I know that John Newton was 75 years old, a FWK and living with Sarah who was 60. Does the record contain any other details - for example their relationship to each other (husband and wife??) - where John was born etc. Many thanks.

Completed Leicestershire Lookup Requests / 1841 census look-up please - newton
« on: Friday 03 March 06 20:43 GMT (UK)  »
 :D Hiya!

I would be grateful if someone could look up John Newton on the 1841 census. At this time, he was living in Loughborough, a widower, and would have been in his mid-70s. He was a retired stocking maker and builder. Possibly born in Loughborough?

His correct age and details of household members would be great  ;)
