Hello and thank you for responding so quickly

I am afraid I have a friend helping me with my research and this is the information that she provided and I will not be able to clarify this with her until tomorrow but your suggestion does sound quite likely given the similarity.  It is possibly someones attempt to decipher handwriting on an official document?? I will see if I can find out and let you know.

Thanks again

Jen

Ireland / Hannah McDonald 1839?
« on: Wednesday 04 March 15 18:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I am chasing the parents of Hannah McDonald.  The only information that I have is that she was born in "Swadling Bay" Ireland in 1839 but when I google "Swadling Bay" nothing comes up?

She married John Fish from Lancashire and ended up in Australia. She died in 1899.

Hannah and John had a daughter - Amelia Elizabeth Fish

Any help and information would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Jen

Hi Trish,
Thank you for that clarification.  I did notice the names being the same but thought it was an error. Could that mean that they were related or just coincidence??

Cheers

Angus (Forfarshire) / Robert Greig?
« on: Tuesday 03 March 15 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

Am looking for any information on Robert Greig born about 1751 in Redcastle, Inverkeilor, Angus.
He was apparently married to Ann ? 26 April 1777 in Inverkeilor and they had at least 8 children one of whom was Martha Greig born 11 July 1792 in Inverkeilor.

Hoping someone may know his parents names and more detail on his wife Ann?

Many thanks
Jennifer

Hi Jen,

Thanks for all that information and sorry for not responding sooner.  Have been following up your information and a few other trains of thought but have to say that I am no further advanced.

Couldn't find the 1861 census record of Martha Christie in Benholm, only one for her in 1851, Benholm but by this stage Emily and John Anderson had emigrated to Australia (1855).

I'll just keep hoping that someone can solve the mystery but in the meantime I am very grateful for your assistance and the research you have done on my behalf.

Many thanks
Jennifer

Welcome to my world!!!
Birth records of subsequent children born in Tasmania including my GGF show "Emily Anderson formerly Christie" as the mother so I think I can be fairly sure that Christie was her maiden name. A census record from 1841 shows an Emily Christie as the daughter of Archibald Christie (Coastguard) and Martha Christie so that led me to believe I was on the right track there but willing to be corrected?? And Yes - industrial strength confusion and no definitive  documents giving any clue whatsoever to John's Parents no matter how hard I look!!

I did find a John Anderson 18yo in the 1841 census listed as an apprentice stonemason with parents Archibald and Mary Anderson both born 1801 but the census results were taken in Gorbals-Lanarkshire and listed all but the youngest child as being born "outside of the census county" so again nothing to directly link it all together?? Any official documents I do have copies of always list John as being born in Fifeshire. All documents specifying his age always lead me to 1823 as his birth year but that is as far as I ever get and given the confusion on ancestry.com I would like to know I got it right!!! Hence why I reached out for help on this forum.  Also posted on the fife fhs forum but no responses??

I really appreciate the responses that I have been getting and so quickly and hope that someone can help me put the jigsaw together as John is a huge black hole in my family tree???

Many thanks Jen

Cheers

Hi Dod,
I too was a little puzzled by the St Andrews, St Leonards, Dunfermline, Fife bit for the exact reasons you stated but as I am from Australia I thought maybe I was just ignorant! hahaha.
Nice to hear that I was correct in thinking that it was not right.
Regards
Jennifer

Thanks Jen,

I'll update my notes on Archibald Christie. Some of my information comes from reliable sources and some from sources not so reliable so always willing to be corrected. Thanks for alerting me to that bit of info.

Many thanks
Jennifer
