Technical Help / Re: Converting a GFT or GEDCOM to '5.5 or higher'

Hi Tim,

Duh! Sent you the half-finished folder, by mistake.

Just import the ged_4 files into (free and v.good) Legacy8 and export as ged_5.5.1
Or keep them in Legacy8?

Ray

We just got my mother in law Family Tree Maker 2014, from the ancestry crowd. I'll import into their online service and output as 5.5. It'll only take a few minutes, thanks again :)

Thanks Ray, much appreciated! You got the files up to GEDCOM 4.0 format, which family tree maker 2014 doesn't support, but you can import them into a free ancestry.co.uk account and export them as version 5.5 as the program needs. So one more step and it'll be done :)

Apparently there's another way to do it, ancestry.co.uk told me about it. Details here, in case it helps anyone in future. I might give it a shot out of interest. Basically you use Family Tree Maker 2005 SE free trial to do the conversion.

Thanks again :)

Thanks Ray, I appreciate your time and efforts :) I'm going to see if the super old version of the software my MiL uses can be installed on an old PC I have as well, just as an experiment... if we can find the software and the computer.

Well I may be the latest person to ask the generous Ray to help with gft files. I've scoured the Internet and Ray seems to be the only person who can do the conversion! I'm going to make three posts then send a message, hoping Ray is still using the site and helping people out.
