Thank you, thank you, thank you - the photographs are absolutely wonderful, bringing such an old photograph back to life again, I can't wait to show my cousin who I share my family research with.

My goodness!!!

Thank you so very much to you all - I honestly thought it was an impossible task - I am showing my ignorance here, but do you have to buy special software to be able to do this kind of restoration to photographs?

My thanks once again.

Armed Forces / Royal Navy question
« on: Friday 26 June 09 12:21 BST (UK)  »
Could someone help me please with the attached record I found at the National Archive regarding my grandfathers navel service.

I have found out  that HMS Pembroke was a training ship at Chatham.

Does anyone know of a website where I can find out the sailing routes of the ships he served on at the time he was on board?

We have a photograph of him when he played for the Royal Navy football team, it was purportedly taken in China, when the Royal Navy played the Chinese national football team and I would love to know what ship he was on.

Also my mother was born in 1930 and apparently my grandfather did not see her until she was a couple of months old as he was at sea, but the National Archive record only goes up until 1927?

I do know that he served during the Second World War - why is that service not shown on his record?

Does the record also show what my grandfather did on board ship?

Also was does the badges record mean?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Freedom of the City of London
« on: Thursday 12 July 07 17:17 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help please.

My grandmother (now deceased) always said that one of her relatives was given the "Freedom of the City of London".  He was an artist.

Does anyone know what this means?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of this honour (if it exists) - I haven't heard of it before.

Many thanks for your help.
