Durham Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 Census Look Up Haggarty
« on: Friday 19 April 13 16:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi, dont know how old this thread is but I'm related to the Haggarty's Robert and Mgt E, if you need any information on their life in Stockton?

Hi Joolzy.

Lovely to find this surprise. I have just discovered your reply having been unwell over the past few years. Last year  I moved and lost easy access to much of my research work followed by computer disk problems. I would be very interested to hear from you and exchange information with you. If you contact me by private message I'll let you have my contact details.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 census Kingwood/Kingswood
« on: Thursday 23 August 07 09:35 BST (UK)  »
Many thanks for all of your help. I'm really disgusted at the National Archives for this huge gaff, especially as ithese census transcripts were put online yesterday. Even a number of entries at LDS are flawed and it would appear that Ringwood is a standard Norfolk name. From what I can see it appears that there are no Kingswoods at all in the area despite being so close to Lincoln.

I really appreciate the information which now ensures I shan't waste any further time on trying to find Kingswoods in Norfolk.

Best Regards

Many thanks Wozzle! This is one that isn't listed at the National Archives where the spelling is KINGSWOOD for some of the other names I listed. Yet Wells is only 40 miles from where my Kingswoods lived.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / 1851 census Kingwood/Kingswood
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 09:16 BST (UK)  »
My 4 x gr grandmother was an Ann Kingswood b 1760 in Lincolnshire and most of that family are to be found there.

However, from the National Archives 1851 census index there are listed a number of Kingwood/Kingswood persons in Norfolk, notably the parish of Walsingham/Wells that are of great interest to my family research. I'm wondering if someone could do a look up of these families or look to see if there are any other Kingwood/Kingswood families in Norfolk. Later census mention some names in Snettisham, Docking.

Amongst the names I've found listed in the index are William Kingswood b 1784/1811 Robert b 1780/1809/1827 and a number of youngsters John, Robert, Ann, Sarah, Jane  Martha.

Thanking you in advance for any help.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1861,1871 census look up Burchell

No sign of Richard's Wife     ???
Maybe we've hit upon a true life Fagan! Very odd that there's no wife. Maybe she was ill due to the last birth and went back to Ireland. This looks very promising with the names similar to my own Burchells. I wanted to follow this up as my grandfather always  said his family were from Cork. Yet the other records show his father born in Co Leitrim. Thank you so much Sue. Looks like they'll have been in Ireland in 1851 as there's a 6 year gap.

Richard Burchill Head 50 Widr b Cork, Ireland    Wharf labourer
Richard Son 22 unm b Cork, Ireland                   Fellmonger

Stephen Son 14 b Bermondsey
Henry Son 11 b Bermondsey
Elizabeth Fowler Lodger 78 Wid b Reading

This is an excellent find Sue. First sighting where Richard senior is a widower and there are other children, all sons. Something suspicious about all these Irish families with no girls. Another piece in the puzzle and very much appreciate.

Thank you so much

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1861,1871 census BIRCHELL/BIRCHALL
« on: Sunday 15 April 07 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi Art

I don't have access to 1901

I looked again at the index and it shows plenty of police officers that were born in all parts of Ireland, so that would not have been the reason for him leaving. Good thinking though  ;)

I have found a marriage for a Joseph Birchall, son of Frederick, to Mary Healey at St Wilfreds RC church, Hulme, if this is of interest let me know

Regards, Dave

It is the Joseph Birchell born Ireland/Stockport that particularly interests me at this time as he could be a related to my gr grandfather Richard Birchell. Richard became a police constable after leaving the Connaught Rangers and was attached to HMS Customs in London in 1901.

I'll keep this Joseph in mind but at present I'm trying to stay focused to see if I get anywhere. I have little except Co Leitrim to go on. Perhaps I can get a death certificate later for Joseph or his marriage certificate.

In the meantime I really appreciate all this help. Many many thanks.
Very Best Regards

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Born Stockport
« on: Sunday 15 April 07 20:00 BST (UK)  »
I think I've cracked why he's born Stockport as someone's posted his registration as a policeman in 1870 married and born Stockport. He wouldn't have got into the police otherwise. Maybe he was thrown out when they discovered he was Irish. Do you have access to 1901. Maybe he's back in the police again!!!

Thank you so much for this information Dave. Looks promising especially as someone has found found that Joseph in the 1891 census. Don't think he survived his training as he's working as a laborer in 1881 and a Packer in 1891. This is most helpful and I'll post any further information that's forthcoming.

Very Best Regards
