Armed Forces / Re: John Beer(Beard) The Buffs, update!!
« on: Sunday 04 August 19 19:50 BST (UK)  »
After my last post 2006!! I have found a little more about my G-father, I now have a copy of the 1885 pay lists for the 1st Bn East Kent regiment in which 1332 Pte John Beard is shown and the final column is blank, although the entries above his show 'to 2 So Yorks' there is also attestation for him transferred to 1st class army reserve to Yorks and Lancs regt 1891-1895.

given what I have so far, is there any chance of finding the attestation papers for the 1885 East Kent regt pay lists??

Many thanks folks, I have tried most of these links, to no avail, I thought as it was some time ago that there maybe something new out there, when you look at these links there is very little that covers the period 1945-1950.

I will try again once Brexit it done and dusted in 25 years time!! ;D ::)

Has anybody any idea of possible info regarding Knowle Hospital Fareham in the late 1940's, my father had a very seriuos accident in Southampton docks 1945-6 and as a result was certfied 'Temporary Insane' for a long period, he was one of the first to have the  shock wave treatment to the brain, which did not do him any good at all, he died 1953 aged 44.

A little puzzle that I have been struggling with, now time to open it up, I think.

Family member K R Marden, b1917 shown in 1939 register as 'Bread Baking' a reserved occupation in the provisional 1939 listings, photos showing him in uniform and to have served in Palestine with the Beds and Herts regt, nothing found in the medal rolls for him, BUT, R Marden Pte 5949806 1st Bn Herts regt is shown in medal rolls for 1945-1948 Palestine, this is the only man of that name that has been found so far.

I have included the best image I can of his cap badge.

My puzzle is this, are they one and the same man, if so how do I prove it beyond doubt??

My attachments are blocked because Sorry! There is already an attachment with the same filename as the one you tried to upload. Please rename the file and try again.

I have tried every which way to no avail, any suggestions??

The upside down 'V' s either GC (Good Conduct) stripes or Long Service stripes, the 2 crossed rifles signifies a marksman with the rifle.
