Hi April
I’ve sent you a message

Mum has never seen Uncle Ken's birth certificate  but I understand that adopted children get a certificate from the adoption register which only gives the names of the adoptive parents, with no mention of a previous parentage
I understand that when uncle Ken was adopted, Mabel specifically asked that he keep his name William Kenneth. Grandma honoured this but preferred to call him Kenneth, or Ken. I'm guessing that Mabel wanted for him to be William.
I'm so sad to read of your father in law's circumstances, but glad that he went on to have a happy life.
We are glad to answer any further questions you may have about uncle Ken.

Oh my thank you for all of this. I confess it is making me very emotional. Is there any way of finding out if there were any further children? I understand that if any are living then I can't find out about them here

Hi Emiltom
Thanks for that, that's where I found the possible birth in 1913, I was hoping to find some further information though if possible

Hi thanks for your replies. I don't have access to the 1939 register, I haven't subscribed to any of the sites.
Thanks again

Hi
I'm hoping to find some information please about my grandmother
My mum Shirley was born in Grimsby April 1937 and her mother was Edna Kathleen Holgate. Mum was adopted in October 1937 and all we have is a letter her mother wrote to my mum's adoptive mother formally handing her over together with a photograph of Edna.
We are not sure of how old her mother was when mum was born
I looked on FreeBMD and found an Edna K Holgate listed as being born 1913 (assuming that is her?) but don't know how to find any further information about her, whether she married, had other children etc
I understand that any descendents who may still be alive cannot be disclosed.
Any help would be very gratefully received
Thank you

Hi David
We understand my uncle was born in Beverley but don't know the exact address
He was advertised in the local newspaper (in much the same way one might advertise puppies and kittens today!) and was adopted by my grandparents when he was six weeks old in Hull. The family moved to the West Riding during the war and didn't return to Hull as the house they were living in was destroyed
He found his birth mother and visited her when he was in his 20s but she said she didn't want him to visit again as the family didn't know about him.
He married and had a son and had a very happy life. He was always known as Ken. Sadly he passed away in 2008, aged 78
