Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Scottish portrait date and age

Could I draw your attention to Jim's dating over a month ago. He is the RC dating guru  :)

The start date is just pre WW1 & possibly into the war years but I
suspect it's pre war by the the girl's dress style.
Is there a stamp box on the back?
Often they are dateable.

That's odd as all the search features, etc. are working for me now. This includes doing searches and listing my own and other members' previous posts  whether I'm off or on line.

The 19th century saw rapid industrial development in Elswick. In
1847 W.G.Armstrong and his partners bought land on the banks of
the Tyne for a new engineering factory. Originally set up to make
hydraulic cranes, this was to become one of the most important
armaments manufacturers in the world. Other industries
developed along the riverside, including a leatherworks and a lead
works. Several of the factory owners and other local businessmen
built grand houses for themselves further up the banks

It could be a leatherworks

Add - but it  might not be in Elswick!

I would think it's 1850s. I hope Jim will come on and give you more information.
