Mea Culpa, you are correct. It was late at night, however, when digital dyslexia is at its worst, and I'm not so good a reading sideways fom top to bottom. ;D

I found the record on Ancestry, but for some reason, it's now not showing as a hint  :( The regiment is the 90th Foot Soldiers, and the date is about 1816. The column third from right is actually Former Service Corps. The document has a reference number of WO 25/552 page (i think) 20 if that helps.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Thomas Stonyer, birthpace?
« on: Friday 10 May 24 23:01 BST (UK)  »
I have attached a clip from the UK regimental Registers of Service for a Thomas Stonyer. I can't make out his birthplace in Staffordshire. It appears to say Hansame, but I can't find any place with that name in Staffordshire. There's also what appears to be an occupation in the third column from the right that I can't quite make out. Any ideas, please?

Thank you, yes, that seems to be the case. Now to track down the letter.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

I suspect that the marriage I was looking for never actually took place.

I suggest that we now draw a line under this particular case.

A newspaper report in the Morning Herald of 20 Jan1842 refers to a court case of The Queen V. Stonyer and Others. I think the case is heard by the Queen's Bench. Where might I find a transcript of the hearing? The case appears to combine both libel and bankruptcy.  :D

I have found what I think is Peter Heath's baptism in 1819 at St. Modwen, Burton upon Trent. I've attached the image, but I'm struggling to make out Peter's second forename. The entry suggests Peter was illegitimate.
